This is what I like about you Barny. You don't even recognize when you are completely wrong.

John Schneider as GM in Seattle: record 79-48-1 .621

Schneider started in 2010 and Seattle had that WL record ONLY because they had 3 GREAT drafts 2010-2012 [8 Pro-bowlers [PB] and 7 other guys that got solid to elite 2nd contracts].

Scot McCloughan was there for those 3 years and in 2010 Schneider had 98% of Ted’s draftboard, 50% in 2011 and 25% in 2012.

After 2012, McCloughan left and Schneider without any of Ted’s draft board conducted 5 drafts that yielded NOT ONE SINGLE PBer and only 3 starters [Ifedi, Britt and Lockett-Clark is a solid situational pass rusher].

With a cheap PB QB and 14 other cheap starters [7 of which were PBers], Schnieder had a fortune to spend on FAs. Just a few decent picks and a few solid FA decisions and this should have been a 10 year dynasty w/ 3-4-5 SBs. But, Schneider literally killed it with several STUPID FA moves and trades [Balmer, Flynn, Lacy, Atari Bigby, Leon Washington, Jason Jones, Farwell, Whitehurst, Joekal, Palombus, Harvin, TE Miller, Raheem Brock, Mike Williams, Rubin, Graham, Sydney Rice, Robert Gallery, McQuisten, Branch, etc]. Branch’s signing caused 4th rounder Jaye Howard to be cut as a rookie, where played at a PB level in KC before injuries took him out. Seattle traded for Lynch in 2010 and signed Bennett and Avril, which were good moves, but only Lynch and Bennett were Schneider’s doing. And Schneider traded his 2018 2nd [1 yr rental of Richardson] and 3rd rounder [for a 10M tackle that’ll probably be cut].

Schneider is a loser drafting w/o McCloughan and Ted’s Board.

Schneider is a loser in making deals.

And Schneider is a drunk and one of those good time Charlie Friends. He rode his “friend” McCloughan, when he should have been more concerned of his health. Did you know Randy Newman wrote the short people song after meeting Schnieder?

In McGinn’s hack piece of Ted, I wonder who could McGinn identify as a “close friend” of Ted’s that would publically sell him out? I’ll bet that turd was Schneider, the guy is a POS. Though he did introduce Jessica Kress to McCarthy.

How many of you have ever helped hire your new boss? Show of hands? Ah, none. It is bizarro world.

You're right, I haven't worked in academia. You're telling me that professors pick their superiors who then have control over their future employment? I learned something. I hope you learn to never ever again say another word about me in the manner you did here.

Gentlemen,
Your comments are so much more interesting and elucidating when you stick to discussing characteristics and ideas behind the people in the story, not personal shortcomings, and not each other. As it is written:
- Great minds talk about ideas
- Average minds talk about events
- Small minds talk about people
To address some of the ideas recently discussed in the post
- Yes, at times, employees have input on the hiring or their superior. It may be especially appropriate if that employee is a Super Bowl winning coach...and there aren't many. I don't think MikeM is a great defensive mind, but he chooses to delegate to his DC.
- Perhaps the Packers are contemplating structure where there would be a Executive Vice President of Football operations with a General Manager AND Head Coach Reporting to him....it is probably a long shot, but its an idea.
- Further, you don't know if Mike M's hands were tied re DCDC. I had been very critical of DC, and thought Mike McCarthy owned the problem since he had not effectuated change. Well, now he has:
- Do I hope it is an external candidate....hell yes...but
- Just because you worked for somebody doesn't mean you think like him. I worked for a brilliant, risk averse guy. When I ( a relative dumb ass) ran my own show, I took risks and no one would have recognized the two organizations.
Let see the outcome before being too judgemental

That said, I'm still with you that I'm not happy with what's rumored to be happening with the GM position.

One thing I believe is Mike McCarthy is growing in stature with Ted's departure. I said that here or on twitter, I can't remember where.

Reportedly, he'd been frustrated with Ted's lack of help via FA. Having Mike McCarthy have more sway there may not be a bad thing and maybe a very good thing. Not sure what his level of understanding in what makes a great football player but we're going to find out. He spoke to needing BIG TARGETS to run down the middle of the field. Jimmy Graham will be out there. I'll be watching, well, not so much if Ball is the guy, if there is a big target acquired via FA or one drafted.
Mike McCarthy was the one I had the least issue with staying. Wanted him gone to start fresh, but it has been a little unfair having him captive to Ted's lack of acquiring performing vet talent. Heck, he may have been the guy doing some of the stuff this past off-season. I don't believe it was Ted and I never considered it may have been MM's input in all of that.

This is not a buddy club but it is a buddy club. Now, I'm not naive that this is how it works across the NFL, there's lots of buddies all over the place, but it seems that's all we do. I really hope we expand our horizons. Sameness has it's merits but so does change. Too much same and not enough of change is out of balance.

I've worked at places where subordinates interviewed whom they would report to. It was odd the first time, but then it made more sense when it was about who meshes with who.

Russ Ball and Mike McCarthy crossed paths with the Saints from 2002-2004.
They were both apart of the Chiefs too. I'm not sure if their paths crossed there too though. McCarthy said he first met Russ in 1993.

McCarthy spoke today about "fit" like he was either setting things up for him being let go, or saying to everyone "hey the new GM has to fit with ME". The tone sounded like a guy who wasn't going to have the man who introduced him to his wife as his GM. Yes, Russ Ball introduced Mike McCarthy to Jessica (who filed for divorce March 2004), his current wife.

beast (48m) : Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
beast (8h) : Sounds like no serious injuries from the Saints game and Jacobs and Watson should play in the Vikings game
packerfanoutwest (13h) : both games Watson missed, Packers won
Martha Careful (15h) : I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas!
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Oh I know about Jacobs, I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to mimic Zero lol
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : Jacobs was just sat down, Watson re-injured that knee that kept him out 1 game earlier
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : I needed .14 that's. .14 points for the whole 4th quarter to win and go to the SB. Lol
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Jacobs gonna be OK???
Zero2Cool (24-Dec) : Watson gonna be OK???
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : Inactives tonight for the Pack: Alexander- knee Bullard - ankle Williams - quad Walker -ankle Monk Heath
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : No Jaire, but hopefully the front 7 destroys the line of scrimmage & forces Rattler into a few passes to McKinney.
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : minny could be #1 seed and the Lions #5 seed
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : We'd have same Division and Conference records. Strength of schedule we edge them
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I just checked. What tie breaker?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes its possible but unlikely. If we do get the 5th, we face the NFCS winner
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ahh, ok.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes due to tie breaker
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I mean, unlikely, yes, but mathematically, 5th is possible by what I'm reading.
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : If Vikings lose out, Packers win out, Packers get 5th, right?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : Minny isnt going to lose out so 5th seed is out of the equation. We are playing for the 6th or 7th seed which makes no difference
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, the ad revenue goes to the broadcast company but they gotta pay to air the game on their channel/network
beast (23-Dec) : If we win tonight the game is still relative in terms of 5th, 6th or 7th seed... win and it's 5th or 6th, lose and it's 6th or 7th
beast (23-Dec) : Mucky, I thought the ad revenue went to the broadcasting companies or the NFL, at least not directly
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think the revenue share is moot, isn't it? That's the CBA an Salary Cap handling that.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : i mean game becomes irrelevant if we win tonight. Just a game where we are trying to play spoilers to Vikings chance at the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, I would guess ad revenue from more eyes watching tv
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I would think it would hurt the home team because people would have to cancel last minute maybe? i dunno
beast (23-Dec) : I agree that it's BS for fans planning on going to the game. But how does it bring in more money? I'm guessing indirectly?
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : bs on flexing the game....they do it for the $$league$$, not the hometown fans
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I see what you did there Mucky
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : dammit. 3:25pm
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Packers Vikings flexed to 3:35pm
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Upon receiving the news about Luke Musgrave, I immediately fell to the ground
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Yeah baby!
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : LUKE MUSGRAVE PLAYING TONIGHT~!~~~~WOWHOAAOHAOAA yah
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I wanna kill new QB's ... blitz the crap out of them.
beast (23-Dec) : Barry seemed to get too conservative against new QBs, Hafley doesn't have that issue
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (23-Dec) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (23-Dec) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (23-Dec) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (23-Dec) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
beast (23-Dec) : We already have told you... if Packers lose all their games (they won't, but if they did), and Buccaneers and Falcons win all theirs
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I posted it in that Packers and 1 seed thread
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I literally just said it.
