Packers' only option: It's Brett Hundley or bust without a Plan B

I will bring this post over here. It might be better suited for this thread.

I don't mind that UncleTeddy drafted Hundley. Teddy rated him higher than the 5th round. I can accept that. The QB situation was a real train wreck when Aaron went down the last time. Clearly GB needed to something and they felt Hundley would be the answer. Should it take 3 years and live fire for the brain trust to realize he isn't? Teddy and Co are suppose to be geniuses at evaluating talent. After they got Hundley signed on the doted line and in camp they should know if he is NFL caliber or not. The QB whisperer should have known by now if Hundley understood the system. Mikey should have known whether or not Hundley can read his progressions or if he gets spooked and runs away before viewing the entire field.

And finally what ticks me off the most is that GB feels it is ok to use an UDFA as the #3 QB simply because they are so lousy that it is safe to stash them on the PS because no other tam wants them on their roster either.

It can't be any one else other than Brett Hundley. You can't tell your team and everyone that Brett is the guy, I have confidence in him, he's the guy and then after the 3rd year QB falters in his first four starts you go to someone else. You can't do that as a leader because it shows the rest of the team that you don't have their back when they fuck up. You know how many players felt encouraged when Packers stuck it through Mason Crosby's shit season? A lot! The difference between them is Mason had built up confidence where Brett has not.

If the Packers yanked Brett after the 3rd INT and coach said he just wanted to see if Joe Callahan could provide a spark, I think most would have been okay with that.

The Mason Crosby effect wasn't positive. It showed guys they could not perform and everything would just stay the same. Sound like any franchise you know?

Letting Crosby fail on the field over and over created softness in this team. Sure, players love Mike McCarthy for it. It's opposite everything they ever learned in sports. Now, they not only got to keep playing while not performing they got paid handsomely for it, too.

Go back to that Mike McCarthy "highly successful coach" comment. When was it uttered? Right after his team got destroyed, again, in the playoffs. He spun a beat down into a justification. Ever seen that permeate? No winner would say that in that context. This is what has been created and bought by this fanbase. When things are truly bad and ugly and require change we see the past cited and spin offered to keep the status quo just exactly like Mike McCarthy sets the tone and everyone follows. It's the drumbeat of a loser and underperformer all in the name of everything is okay even when it's not okay as possible.

I thought less of the coach when he uttered those words. I was kind of thinking, if you are something, others will speak of that on your behalf. Meaning, if I'm a nice person, I show you, I don't have to tell you. I also felt coach was feeling insecure at the moment and that's why he had to "remind" everyone.

I think the drum of fire staff should be stopped. I don't think too many are going to shed a tear if the staff is removed. The fact of the matter is they will not be removed this season, get the fack over it and move on.

Even the fans who support the current staff, if they were fired, they would support the new staff. In other words, why can't we just get behind the team this season and root for them? It's like a fight of who is right when I feel we should just be ... not fighting one another or trying to out prove one another.

Couldn't agree more on MM... that was an incredibly weak moment for him to throw that out especially given the circumstance. That is not a winner, there. Can you imagine Belichick saying that after losing a huge playoff game? He would be upset that they didn't get it done and go with his hair on fire trying to ensure it didn't happen again. Waiting for B to show up and cite a playoff lull for NE.

These ideas that I hate with agenda is really nothing more than me being who I am and disliking what I see from others. I study people. I wasn't a fan of either Ted Thompson or Mike McCarthy from the beginning. Not because I wanted to hate them ...but because I just didn't think highly of them ...that more applies to MM. Ted Thompson just doesn't have any aura to him at all. There's no presence. Hard to be inspired by him if not impossible. Mike McCarthy is fake tough. He's not bright and was running the worst O in football when we hired him. Plus, he preferred Alex Smith to Aaron Rodgers. Think on that...the guy running our team preferred Smith and was running that O at a 32nd ranked clip when we hired him. I will NEVER understand his hire...ever. A dumb inexplicable move. Let's run out and replace Mike McCarthy with Mike McCoy who just got fired from the Broncos putrid offense? No. We wouldn't do that...it would be...STUPID. Who would do such a thing but that is in effect what we did when we hired MM. How can you have trust in a GM who would be for that? Hard for me to respect either of them from the beginning. There's been nothing I've seen since that has been inspiring outside of taking 12 which, yes, I was ecstatic over. Absolutely out of my mind that we got him there. He was my favorite college QB, ever. I would watch him at Cal and think...man, we can never get this guy but man is he good...we'd forget all about Favre. Friends used to say I was crazy to say such things but years later told me I was right on about Aaron. So, I don't hate or love just because...there are reasons. Hate is a strong word but I just don't like Ted Thompson or MM. Not my kind of people...not folks I would ever want to work for. So, I blast them and hope they leave in hopes we get winners in place. That has never been a bad awful mean thing. I've had little patience with those who are org sycophants because I hate that to begin with and I don't like what's being hailed in Ted Thompson and MM. It's been awful for me as a fan to have to read the rah rah we're great...because I believe we could be so much more. We should be more.

Let's get some winners in TITLEtown. That's what we're about. TITLES not divisional or conference...SUPER BOWL. Bring those dead set on getting them not those that justify failure by banging the chest about how successful they are after they just got throttled. Those folks are not winners.

Still, I hope against hope somehow some way both Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy are done after this year. Ted should be forced for health reasons and Mike McCarthy needs to be bought out, too. Start this over. Let's hear from 12...that question should be asked of him...how would you feel about signing an extension if Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy were relieved of duties? That would be an extremely telling answer. A question that should've been asked by now, but our media is so sycophantic it wouldn't even dare dream of asking such a thing...it'd be way too "negative". Ha ha.

I saw the 32nd ranked thing and that's just not accurate. It was one year and you're glossing over what he did elsewhere just to smoke screen things. You hire a head coach because you feel they can win you games, not give you a hire ranking offense. You could be a Special Teams coordinator, but have that leadership quality that you need as a HC. Should you not be oh screw it. I'm taking a break.

Mike McCarthy finished his first season as the 49ers offensive coordinator. He was named to his position January 27, 2005. The 49ers were ranked 32nd in the NFL in total offense, averaging 224.2 yards per game.

----I ask... Why was he hired? Why? Huge line to get the guy who was coordinating the 32nd ranked offense...dead last? These are FACTS. Facts I've been aware of since the day he was hired. Not happy then...not happy now. My reasons are legit whether anyone else thinks they aren't or I'm wrong. Doesn't matter.

No possibility Ted was as wrong on Mike McCarthy as he was on Hundley or Tolzien, Seneca, etc. ?

I don't think Callahan will be the answer, but I think many of us are onboard to the fact that we wouldn't mind to at least see Joe get a fair shot at showing what he can do. Who knows maybe he shows enough to snag the back-up job away from Hundley next season. Maybe he shows enough to be trade worthy. Perhaps we wait until we are mathematically eliminated to do this. I just hope Joe is given a shot at some point.

I think its dumb to rank offenses by yards, instead of points, not that 49ers were better on points. You took the first sentence and completely omit the context that followed. McCarthy had a positive track record with offenses with other teams and with other QB's. You disregard those rankings to support your narrative. You claim to be objective, yet, you're not. The Packers drafted Aaron Rodgers and need a Head Coach to develop him.

I think Mike McCarthy was hired mainly because of drafting Aaron Rodgers. No Aaron Rodgers, I bet it would have been Wade Phillips. If you don't know, I like him. He's the coach who coaches scheme around his players, not players around his scheme.

Z...there's nothing I've taken or said out of context. You said the 32nd ranked thing wasn't accurate. It is, but not by your measure. Mike McCarthy was the coordinator of the 32nd ranked offense when we hired him, and he preferred Alex Smith to Aaron. Those are both facts. I've said I will never ever understand why we hired him. I never will. I also remember that you choose another system outside of what the NFL uses to rate things. We've had that discussion before about offenses and defenses.
Mike McCarthy was someone who was here previously. If he hadn't been, I doubt he gets hired. Look out for Ben McAdoo at some point.

The yards vs. points issue was decided by NFL statisticians a long time ago. I have no issue with you having a different view but to use your differing view to go against the orthodox measure and call it not factual is inaccurate. It is accurate, just not by your measure. Yards are a better reflection of a defense in totality in my view and that is what the NFL ranks them by.
