For NFL punters, Schum knows, the 40-yard mark is rock bottom.

Well this is a relief. I was afraid Schum would be sent packing. 😉 😉

Actually it isn't his fault. If Aaron would get the ball to the 40-45 yard line then Schum's punts would be worth something.

I'm doing a lot of head scratching over McCarthy's personnel decisions and usage.
Schum, Starks, Abberderis, Janis, Montgomery, Davis, Ripkowski.

On the bright side, his Average and Net Average are only 2 yards difference so even though his punts are by no means booming. Teams are not improving field position with good returns.

What worries me is if he can only punt this far now, what will his distance be when it gets cold.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

As for Schum, his NFL net ranking is 22nd, not as horrendous as his 30th ranking in average. Maybe the develop part of D&D will bear fruit by December with him?

I say bring back Masthay.
This punter is going to cost us at least one game this year if they don't "fix" him or cut him.
I can see an occasional poor kick, but this guy has been awful. It's true he hasn't given up big returns, but then again, when you are already giving the opponent the ball almost at midfield, that's as bad as a big return.
And on that point, our kickoff cover team stunk Sunday.

Just makes it an easier decision to go for it on fourth down more often.

I'm completely serious about this - Can Crosby punt? Much more concerned about messing with his place kicking game than anything else. I'm sure he could punt 35-40 yards or maybe more consistently.

Starks - 3rd down back like always.
Abby - not sure why not used yet. I'll agree here.
Janis - couldn't pick up offense in TC, then had a club. How else do you use him?
Monty - missed 10 months with a serious injury.
Davis - some easy drops, not impressive since pads went on. Would appear still raw.
Rip - began integrating much more in week 4.

I don't see what's so curious about what MM is doing w/ these guys.
