I think they saw a lot more than just speed.

He also catches with his hands not his body. Seems to do a very good job of tracking the ball in the air, even when it's back over his shoulder, while he's running at a good speed and like almost all of Thompson WR draft picks has above average body control when adjusting to the ball. I think he has a lot of the tools you look for.
