The Packers and defensive lineman Letroy Guion have reached an agreement in principle on a three-year deal worth $11.25MM, a league source tells Adam Caplan of ESPN.com (Twitter link). The new contract agreement will lock Guion up through the 2018 season, and keeps him from hitting the open market next month. He had been eligible [...]

Mine too Florida🤣

I had Guion figured for Frostee Rucker/alan Branch money less a bad boy discount.

Way to stick it to McSpinn and his faithful dog Cohen.

Just goes to show us that evaluation not stats determines who stays and who goes and for how much, well ahh er unless Ted Thompson didn't know where else to get his Ganja.

Will see when the details come out, but I can live with that contract for him. He seems to be better at getting pressure than Raji, where Raji is a better run stuffer IMO. Need to have good depth in the fat guys on the defense.
The world needs ditch diggers too Danny!!!

Frostee Rucker 67.1 2016 $2,159,375
Letroy Guioon 72.3 2016 $3,750,000
Alan Branch 77.4 2016 $2,150,000

Those grades are from ProFootballFocus. I only threw them up for curiosity sake beacuse I really haven't much opinion on the signing. If anything, maybe they gave a little extra because they know they are not bringing B.J. Raji (64.1 btw) back?

Gives us leverage on Raji's negotiation.

AFter all, Guion came in and got it done for a whole year when Raji popped his bicep. Plus there's Pennell in the mix.

Guion is a guy you have to fear giving money to. Most players give greater effort in a contract year and once they get their payday they pull back. Perhaps, that's what happened to Randall Cobb and he was of great character so money to LeTroy is far riskier.

Makes me wonder if this will negate taking a DL high in the draft. I was expecting Guion gone and a highish pick on the DL not that we've had great success taking guys high up there so maybe this is insurance against another miss up there.

I don't believe this is leverage for Raji... I think it means BJ is done.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

This deal doesn't bother me a bit. 3.5 mil a year may seem a lot given the way salaries tend to increase over time, but it's probably going to be about the going rate for a non-starter multiple-position/front DL that gets a lot of reps.

I'd rather they pay this to Guion than to Raji. Now if they end up signing Raji for similar/a bit more, then I'll probably be a bit bothered -- since the combination of signings would tell me they are more or less content with what they have.

I still think we get a Raji deal done and we draft a DL later in the draft unless the value is extremely high at an earlier part in the draft.

I thought the DL improved quite a bit this year. We held some great runners to pretty mediocre games.

The Packers are 25th in salary cap dedicated to the defensive line so I really don't think the Packers went overboard here. I suppose being a 3 - 4 defense also contributes to that because I think more than half the teams in the NFL are running 4 - 3.
