We could have and should have kept 6 WRs - 7 was not even out of the question. I did a couple versions of a 53 man roster that way.

I hope you're right that Jones is of good enough character to help along the young guys - I obviously can't say one way or the other about that. Playing is the main thing that brings them along, though, and if damn Jones is active, they will be doing a lot less of that. As I said, Jones SHOULD be a distant 5th. Now, with the stupid seniority system, I assume that will be Janis - who I would MUCH rather see catching the ball than an overripe lemon like Jones.

We still should win; We should go all the way to and win the Super Bowl; But we would have been better off WITHOUT James Jones than with him.

He has been listed behind Devante on the depth chart. We need to make up for 1400 yards lost with Jordy, Jones can account for 700 of that. He will also be the best blocker in the WR group which is needed with the bubble screens and help for lacy. He was almost able to get 700 yards with a rookie QB on a bad team with Rodgers the only way he doesn't exceed that is if the young guys exceed expectations.

If Jones taking a few snaps away from Janis and Montgomery means we have a guy on the field that knows the plays and where to line up and has proven he can get the ball then I'm all for a small setback in development for the younger guys. I'll sacrifice a little playing time for the young guys for a few extra first downs, TD's and wins any day. If the young guys are worthy they will earn playing time and if they are capable they will develop.

If Nelson hadn't gotten hurt Montgomery and Janis, and all the other wide receivers that were on the team during the pre season would be in the exact same position they are now and getting the exact same amount of development and you would all be happy about it. They will probably all be getting more chances to develop now as the ball will probably be spread around a bit more. The way I see it the only way you could be unhappy with Jones taking away from the young players development is if you were happy that Nelson got hurt because the young players would have a better opportunity to develop.

By this time next season Janis and Montgomery will most likely be at about the same point in their development as they would be had Jones not been brought in and maybe even farther along than they would have been had Nelson not gotten hurt. They may be farther along next year if Nelson got hurt and they didn't bring in Jones but like I said Ill sacrifice a little development time to have a better, more reliable player on the team.

packerfanoutwest (17h) : would you want him if Pack needed a back up qb?
packerfanoutwest (17h) : JW is done......stick a fork in him

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
