"It feels great, man," Jones said. "Just getting better every day and taking every rep serious, making sure every day my cleats touch the grass and I’m getting better. That’s the main focus."

The solid performance from Jones on Wednesday continued a recent stretch of elevated play that began with the first exhibition game against New England last week. Playing with the second-team defensive line — Jones took the field along with Khyri Thornton and Mike Pennel up front — Jones contributed two of the Green Bay Packers' seven sacks.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

He can get after the passer against starters too he just needs to be better against the run or he'll never see enough snaps to be able to do it consistently.

The Packers REALLY need this guy to become a play maker. Badly. he could change the face of the Packers defense if he could become a very good player.

I think Jones is solid if healthy. If the front 3 (or 4, if we're in Nickel) is SOLID, I can live with that. If the defense ends up average overall, this offense will win us a Super Bowl.

I too was excited about the Perry pick. With his speed and size I thought he could get down to 260 and be an outstanding LB. It seems he just doesn't have the instincts to play at a high level at LB. Maybe it still happens but time is running out. Datone just doesn't fit the scheme. He would be much better in a 4-3, I could see him leaving in free agency for that reason. I would look into the possibility of a trade. We need a couple of 6'5" to 6'7", 300# DEs. I know that's easier said than done but they could have done something like trading down to take a lesser talent that fits, for a higher pick the following year to have a shot at a higher talent that fits. Right now we're doing it with one #1 pick, low draft choices and free agents on the line. Simple put I think a better job could be done at getting better players that fit the scheme, as someone mentioned. Ted Thompson does a good job, but like everyone, he's not perfect and this is an area we could be better at.

I agree. Ultimately the health factor with these first round picks has been a consistent factor, and one that is kind of a head scratcher.

He just can't seem to stay healthy. Definitely not a bust for the late first round. But if he fails to stay healthy for yet another season he could easily slide into the bust category. Gotta be available.

I did really expect him to play faster than he does though with his great timed speed and strength. The guy is a freak athletically. Totally understandable why a General Manager would take a chance on a player like that late in the first round. Although it probably should have been a 4-3 team.
