I still have no confidence in this team picking up 3rd or 4th and short, while running the football. Seems to get stuffed about 70% of the time.

They should keep working with J. Peppers at TE. I think he could bring in a few TDs.

The thing about the preseason it is isn't about overall team play or even schemes and playcalling. No one is tipping their hand at this point and for the veterans, it's knocking off rust.

The preseason is about individual performances in one on one matchups. The question for the younger guys is are they getting it? Do they do the fundamental things well? Are they up to NFL speed? I don't read a lot into these games, I just want to see if a guy looks like he can play.

In addition, it's the first game. I am not worried about Bakhtiari at LT yet and I am not convinced Janis is going to be a great weapon. I'd rather wait and see how things go and evaluate before the final cuts.

I'll worry in the regular season. As long as noone important gets injured, what happens in the preseason won't bother me.

This red zone problem is very puzzling to me.
They just seem so damn predictable.

They could also try to check out their OL and see if any of them could catch a fast ball and/or jump ball. If so they could use that OL as a blocking TE and use them mostly for blocking but sneak in a passing route every so often.

I don't recall Lacy being in there on any of the short yargage plays the other day. I'm not sweating that per se, unless it continues. Sitton, Lang and Linsley can move a pile a yard or two. Bulaga's not bad either.

RR is 6'4", may or may not have speed to get deep consistently, but he can certainly get open for 3 or 4.

If they have any special redzone packages that have been developed, I doubt we will see that in any preseason games. But if they were going off pure evaluation last week, now they know Davante is not a red zone option, so they can look elsewhere! haha

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Now that's a thought, maybe they're looking at the college ranks? Maybe not head coaches but DC/assistant DCs with league experience?
beast (30-Jan) : College Coaches wouldn't want that publicly, as it would hurt recruiting and they might not get the job.
beast (30-Jan) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired
beast (30-Jan) : I wonder what's taking so long with hiring a DL coach, 2 of the 3 known to interview have already been hired elsewhere.

buckeyepackfan (26-Jan) : That brings up the question, why wasn't Nixon down by contact? I think that was the point Kanata was making.
