You guys have the right GM for your tastes...one who wants good players who don't take up much cap.

It's too bad we have an elite cap eating QB... I want you guys to be as happy as you can be.

Our defense is bereft of elite players. You should be in love with it.

EDIT: Oh, BTW...how many SB's do you think the Lions would've had Aaron Rodgers been on their roster in the Suh/Megatron era? Give us Stafford instead of Rodgers and we don't even win the division.

Of course, the idea of adding an elite player is absolute anathema to the crowd here. Why would we ruin our cap when we can just get good players instead?

It's incomprehensible the things I've read about this here. To compound the matter it's not only stated but it's celebrated. You have to know what kind of thinking that is akin to.

The debate here is about the difference between GOOD and GREAT/ELITE. No surprise most of the people here want GOOD players not elite because of what it will do to our precious cap. Ironically, we have a cap eating QB and I do recall people celebrating his deal as a bargain when he signed it. Nobody had any issues with Clay's deal either. Nobody seemed to have any issue with paying Tramon 10 million last year, but I did.

It is the line of demarcation for me vs. most of you here that makes me a "jerk" or "oddball" or whatever. Most fans want good players and a good team. I want great players and a great team. I'm told how that isn't possible because of the cap. It is possible...completely possible. Yes, you may only have a 3 or 4 year run but it's entirely possible. We've gotten 1 SB appearance with what might end up being the greatest QB of all time. I'll take a load up and multiple SB appearances that result in cap problems over a fiscally healthy team that goes out in the playoffs every single season.

Going to have to put Voltaire's quote in my sig: GOOD is the ENEMY of GREAT. Amen, Voltaire. Amen.

Drafting elite players is never a problem. It is retaining them at the cost of more value positions. An elite kicker is going to cost less than an elite tight end. Which one has more value to your team? That's the balancing act.

musccy said he didn't want to draft an all pro roster because we would have to lose guys due to the cap...oh, no! Not that! It happens anyway and we have very very few elite players.

This thread was about hailing the idea that we have looked NOT to draft a Dez Bryant type talent which is dumb enough in and of itself but then it's piggybacked first reply to article saying Davante Adams was going to be elite and then how great it is that we only shoot for very good not elite WR's. All of those statements are at a level of crazy I don't comprehend.

Yet, it continues on... fans actually DO NOT WANT ELITE PLAYERS DRAFTED DUE TO THEIR EFFECT ON THE CAP. Huh?

I don't know how the hell you came to the conclusion that me or anyone said we wouldn't want Rollins or Randall to be elite or we want to draft a bunch of jabronis. You need your cheap players to excel if you want any chance of succeeding in the NFL. Randall, Gunter, Pennell, Janis, Heyward - PLEASE, BECOME ALL PROS!!!!

All I said is that when their contracts come up you make tough choices, we all know that. On that note, knowing you can't pay top dollar at each position, I said that generally I wouldn't prioritize WR at the absolute top of positions where I'd want to shell out the most $. QB, pass rusher, and CB, IMO are more important to have your highest paid players at, followed closely by WR.

By the way, did I mention that I WANT TO HAVE ELITE PLAYERS ON THE ROSTER, ESPECIALLY OUR DRAFT PICKS!

Some people are just trying to provoke.

It's been stated repeatedly. They key to today's roster is not having one elite player at a position. It's about DEPTH. And Ted is the best there is at that.

Recall also that Ted got us Jeff Janis in a late round. So is that genius or what?
