Best and worst of Ted Thompson's drafts: Cornerbacks

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Ted Thompson has picked 96 players in the 10 drafts he has run as general manager of the Green Bay Packers. Like any personnel man who makes the final call, he has had his share of hits and misses.

Leading up to the start of the draft on Thursday, we have been examining Thompson's best and worst picks at each position group.

So far, we've covered quarterbacks, running backs, receivers, tight ends, offensive linemen, defensive linemen and linebackers.

Next up, cornerbacks.

Total players selected: Eight -- Michael Hawkins, Will Blackmon, Pat Lee, Brandon Underwood, Davon House, Casey Hayward, Micah Hyde, Demetri Goodson

Best pick: Casey Hayward
The second-round pick in 2012 is the likely successor at left cornerback to Tramon Williams, who left in free agency to sign with the Cleveland Browns. Hayward tied Williams for the team interception lead last year with three in the regular season, and he has nine interceptions overall in 35 career games while playing mostly in the sub packages. Six of those interceptions came as a rookie before he missed all but three games in 2013 because of recurring hamstring injuries.

Honorable mention: Micah Hyde

Worst pick: Pat Lee
A second-round pick in 2008, Lee started just one game for the Packers over four seasons. He played in only five games as a rookie, then missed all of the 2009 season because of a knee injury. In 2010 and 2011, Lee played mostly on special teams. Despite playing 32 games for the Packers, he only played 104 total defensive snaps. He played one more season, 2012, for the Oakland Raiders (eight games) and Detroit Lions (seven games) and has not played in the NFL since.

Dishonorable mention: Brandon Underwood
