Because we only have Shields (and now what?)

1. You've never even seen Hayward play outside so you have no idea how he is out there.

However, one player who made a massive impact at the position was rookie Casey Hayward, who finished third in the voting for Defensive Rookie of the Year after intercepting six passes.

With all that talent and starting experience on the field at the position, one can imagine that training camp will be fun for cornerbacks coach Joe Whitt this year. One player who has made his desire to start very clear is Hayward, who started out excelling in the slot before playing well on the outside for several games, including seven starts combined.

Shields is fine, he only slumped a little bit due to injury. We've got potentially great S's too. I'd like a little depth at the position, but I'm not panicking right now.

I don't know where you're getting all this from. Shields is extremely talented and was the only corner in our team who put himself in a position to contest his opponent week in and week out.

And Hayward, as explained earlier, finished third in DROY voting. His 2nd year, like Shields' was hampered by injuries, and I thought he bounced back fine this year.

Tramon Williams has been straight trash ever since the end of the Super Bowl year. The man did himself no favors during the 15-1 season, constantly getting beat. His success was tied to the fact that Charles Woodson opposite him played so well. Against opposing teams' #1 receiver, Williams is a lock to disappoint. I loved him when nobody knew him, but we're past that now.

Shields, Hayward, and Hyde will be fine. Our secondary will be absolutely fine unless Jarrett Bush finds his way onto the field on defense.

Would I rather have kept one between Williams and House.. yes. But for the market price they drew (3rd year being the kicker for Williams) I can't say I am all the upset.

We have corners.. so the title of the thread is knee jerk. Shields is a fine player on one side and we have options at the other, notably Hayward.

Plus we are not even close to the season yet, rumors are Millner is available, there are several rent a players on the market (aged but there) and some younger options. Not to mention we still have Whitt coaching the position, too soon to panic here. We have some young guys in the mix as well.

My opinion we still have a larger hole on the roster in the middle of the box.. but I am sure this will be addressed.

I'm going to agree with Shawn here and add that I worry about the back end only if the front end is solidly shored up. You make that defensive line Grade A, then you can have Grade B talent producing Grade A- results and the same for the back end.
