Greg Jennings isn't the same player he once was. He's lost a step although still runs really good routes. That's usually what happens to players around his age. No disrespect, and appreciate his time with Packers, but I wouldn't bring him back.

Minnesota announced Saturday it was parting ways with Greg Jennings after two seasons

I'm going to be honest, Jennings still has it in the tank. This was in many ways a cap decision for the Vikings. If Jennings were to go back to Green Bay... he'd have to take a piece of humble pie accept being in the 3rd WR slot. I don't think he will. I plan to see him far away from the North next season

From star receiver to average receiver. Guess it really does matter who your QB is. Who would have thought.

I wouldn't doubt seeing a team like the Colts or Pats adding him to their roster. He clearly still thinks he is worth more than the teams value him at as there are reports of the Vikings trying to restructure and not coming to an agreement.

Jennings got what he wanted in going to the Vikings. A big pay day.

I'm betting his name will come up.
In discussions.

Another team with a greater need will probably sign him for more then what Ted will offer.

Who knows, might be able to dust off the old Jersey.

I don't see a need for him. We have Davante now.

Has not had a 1k yard season in like 4 years.

I wonder what his sister thinks...

I bet now, in retrospect, he wishes he'd just signed what GB offered. Both from a $$$ and production standpoint.

The Dolphins tried to throw huge money at Cobb... then traded their #1 WR away... I could see them (or even the Saints or Raiders) offering a cheaper contract to Jennings... and that's where Jennings wanted to go in FA a couple years ago... my understanding is Joe Philbin didn't have say so in the roster but their former GM did when Jennings was a FA. Now that they went after Cobb, I think that might suggest Philbin has more say in the roster under the new coach so maybe Jennings will find a home there.

Why would the Packers want Jennings back? He'd be a pretty good stop-gap for the hole Finley's absence created in the middle of the field. I'd still think Greg is quick enough, and may still be one of the best route runners in the league. From the slot, opposite Cobb or Jordy, Greg could still do things. Heck, he could even do things as an outside receiver and free Jordy to the inside. A top four of Adams / Cobb / Jennings / Nelson might come close to rivaling the 2011 receiving crops.

Why I think, despite the above, it's unlikely the Packers bring him back? They've got good young talent at WR that you'd rather let play and develop. Janis / Abbrederis / White are all younger options with potential and speed. Maybe Richard Rodgers develops some more speed. Ted isn't exactly known for bringing in veterans at a position of strength with still developing young talent. Also, there may be too many hurt feelings with Jennings' "Packers brainwash you" comments to make a reunion possible.

My dark horse for Jennings: Dolphins. With Philbin the HC, you'd think he'd love to bring in Jennings and add another option at WR along with Stills. Also, seems like the Dolphins have no issue spending in free agency.

TL;DR: wouldn't mind Jennings, but don't see Ted bringing him back. We'll be fine without him.

but from his perspective, wanting to be the best and such. it probably just eats him up that such a huge chunk of his career has now been pretty much wasted.

all because he wanted more money, and presumably to be the star WR of his team.

Well, The contract got cut in half, and he has not been a "star WR" since he left Green Bay.

And now he has to find another team, who probably don't have long-term plans for a 31 year old receiver, and for even less money.

---

Ted offered 8-mil a year, and Aaron Rodgers at QB.
Spielman offered 9-mil and....?

Ted's deal looks awfully good now doesn't it.

---

Edit:

I stand corrected, we offered him near 10 million/year contract extension and he refused, threw a hissy fit, and played
"not to get hurt" all year until the playoffs because he thought he would get more on the open market.

he didn't.

and when the big money was not being offered, Ted lowered his price.

and that is why he is so salty.

I didn't like how he left so much. For a couple years I thought he was a top 10 receiver and then he started to decline. He was never a speedster and that was fine because he ran some incredible routes.

If Greg Jennings was thinking of maximizing his money, he would have taken the Packers deal. When you have no stability at QB and you're a high priced WR, you can pretty much bank on it that your contract will not see through. Thus, leaving you with less money.

I gave a good analysis on this exact thing in the Fate of Randall Cobb thread. I'm surprised more didn't pick up on it.

Something else I thought to be of interest here is Jennings was listed on the transaction report as failing a physical.
