GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Four months after the fact, the Green Bay Packers continue to insist they didn't purposely avoid Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman in the season opener.

Whether it was a directive from coach Mike McCarthy or a decision by quarterback Aaron Rodgers -- or some combination of both -- the Packers seem unlikely to employ the same strategy in Sunday's NFC Championship Game given how badly it limited their offense in the 36-16 loss in Wenek 1.

Playing afraid of one guy was bull shit then and it is now.
The Packers have to utilize the whole field in this game.

Would like to see them line up and take whoever Sherman lines up over, and put them in motion. If Sherman follows the motion, it will force him off the LOS giving the WR space and a more free release at the snap.

I remember a bunch of years ago, Dallas did that with TO to keep us from Jamming him at the LOS.

It's a well known fact that unlike the way most teams play, Seattle keeps Sherman on one side of the field. Did you guys see Carolina "test" him? It didn't work too well.

Aaron Rodgers is among the best at scanning the field and hitting the open receiver. I assume that includes whoever Sherman is guarding. Is not throwing to the guy he has if that guy is covered considered "avoiding" him? I don't think so, and I expect the Packers will continue to play it that way.

Seattle's strategy basically invites teams to put their third receiver to his side, and in our case, put Nelson and Cobb wide left and slot left. That seems pretty smart to me, although I suppose Seattle knows that too and has ways to counter the strategy. Anyway, I don't expect very many passes in Sherman's direction, and that's fine with me.

I don't see Boykin as the ST help that having a Janis provide a speed threat against Sherman wouldn't be a better option considering the stakes of this game. The knock on Sherman is his hip flip ability. I would like to see an experiment of Janis gunning on him to see if we can chink that armour some.

Our two best receivers against their 2nd and 3rd Corners (3rd and 4th if Maxwell is hurt), even with a top flight Safety over the top, I kinda like those odds.

I don't care how good a player is - everyone can and will slip up from time to time. I have a hard time believing that our WRs can't get open on Sherman's side.

This is why we need to run the ball. If Lacy is breaking free for big gains, it is harder for a DC to commit to man coverage for 60 minutes. If you can run to his side successfully - it will (in theory) force him to play coverage a bit softer. If he doesn't - they risk Lacy or Starks getting down the sidelines. On a side note - tight man coverage is an invitation to dump it off short and let your RB make a play after the catch.. There are ways to exploit aggressive secondary play.

Make them pick their poison - you win by forcing your will on the other team. If you make them play your game - you should win almost every time.

I mention Boykin, just because he seems to be in the line-up without a major contributing role. I personally would rather see Janis for this one game as I don't see Boykin's contribution on ST being all that special.
