The video doesn't lie. AJ Hawk. The poster boy for what is wrong with this franchise. Mediocre is good enough because we have a superstar QB who will mask the mediocrity in totality.

What's worse is our draft and develop cupboard is and has been pretty much bare for years. I guess you have to try and make Hawk look like he wasn't a total waste of a 1st rounder by trotting him out year after year to say you can justify you got nearly a decade of average football out of him.

Geno Smith comes to town next. The Raiders held the Jets in relative check. Let's see what our boys can do vs. a very very average offense that is on the road in our house. If we don't look really really good you can line up all the excuses in the world...this season is over.

Ted Thompson sits on his hands per former GM: "because they’ve had 25 fricking years of great quarterbacks. Of course it works. Try it without a special quarterback."

As a defense you got to teach them to attack and/or contain... watching this it looks like they're trying to contain... which I find interesting since I thought they were suppose to be going to more of an attack approach (and seeming did as least up front)... but on the outside looks like contain... which being 3rd and short was the wrong thing to do in the video it shows.

But anyways I'm wondering if the coaches will ask them to attack more on the outsides as well... of course Hawk was probably just thinking he couldn't keep up with the guy one on one in the open field and so tried to contain but still... would of been cool to see him charge the guy... and either made the tackle for an awesome play or miss the tackle and blend in with all the other missed tackles that night.

I was all for running a containment strategy on Wilson, but this is Harvin. He's not the QB. Very unlikely he's gonna throw it.

He has been mr. dependable around these parts for a long time now and along the way he has disappointed us, but he has also had great performances sprinkled in here and there. I wasn't actually expecting it, but I think there is legitimate reason for concern of a sharp decline in his performance this year. It is a hunch I have. And, in that case, I believe it will need to be dealt with during the season. Jones is another story. A fellow who has been slowed down from his nagging injuries. The ILB position is a liability for us right now until we see different.

"Team tackling, as Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers calls it, demands each player maintain proper leverage. Against temptation, they must stay true to their assignment. The goal is to tackle in confined boxes, to eliminate the open space receivers and running backs use so well.

When it's done correctly, team tackling is a swarm of defenders converging to the ball. All it takes is one player missing an assignment, though, and bad angles lead to sloppy technique.

Now I understand those of you who will at any chance blast AJ Hawk, that's the norm on this forum.

I've made it clear to the author of the article, that he doesn't know JACK SHIT. Of course I was imediatley banned , but could care less.

Read the quote from Capers, then go back and take another look at the clip.

It won't change anyones mind, but somewhere deep down, you all will realize the play wasn't near as bad as it was made out to be.

The whole defense sucked at one point or another last week, time to move on, timt to concentrate on The Jets!!!!

If that was our Packer offense throwing a bubble screen to Cobb, we would expect him to make the LBer miss and turn it into a big gain. How many times have we watched, Cobb, Nelson, Jones or some other WR do just that. Almost every long run for a TD is the result of a missed tackle or tackles.

The only thing that was going to stop a first down on that play was a dropped ball. The problem on that play was having no defender on the edge within 5 yards of the LOS on a 3rd and 1. A few years ago our secondary would have been on the LOS pressing the WR. No cushion.

I've watched far to many players over the years wiff on plays like that, from our team and others. Hawk made the tackle.

Hawk isn't the reason Harvin didn't break a big play on that, Micah Hyde running through a block and making the tackle was what stopped it. Without Hyde Harvin could have still run right past AJ before he even got a chance to try and tackle him. If he converges on the ball he could have reached him and made the tackle easily. If it comes down to AJ didn't trust himself to come up and make a tackle like some have suggested well that's even worse.

Hell, Julius Peppers gets there at the same time Hawk does and that's after disengaging from the block from the RT while coming from behind.

Clay Matthews was put in a similar situation on the other side of the field a couple drives later only he had a blocker in front of him and Harvin had more time to react after he caught the ball. Did Clay run backwards... no Clay ran toward Harvin and made the tackle (with an added forced fumble) before he got the first down. That's the difference between what a good LB does and what a bad LB does. Make all of the excuses you want it's not hard to see.
