It's really as simple as this: trust the board. Finalize all of the decisions before the draft, and have faith in the scouting. If the board says Barr is the best player available, take him. If it says someone else, take him. If multiple players are rated equally and there is no strong preference, try to trade down and take whichever one is likely to be there when the next pick comes around. Obviously I don't know what it's like to be a general manager, but I would think the draft wouldn't be too stressful so long as a team is properly prepared. I suppose that only changes as the draft approaches the later rounds and the quality of scouting may not be as solid. At that point, I think I'd be willing to take a few more risks, because the chance of 6th and 7th round picks contributing much on a good team aren't great anyway. Take a chance on a great talent with an injury history or off the field issues. It probably won't work out, but if it does it's a steal.

Nobody I have heard from thinks much of Barr at the moment. Doesn't sound like they are considering him first round talent. What are they missing? I don't know. I watched a draft special and the sports science guys love him.

Obviously, like you said, there is room for adjustment and tweaking depending on what happens in the draft but I would think the good GMs have their choices narrowed down to maybe 2 or 3 or 4 guys tops based on their boards and depending on what happens prior to their pick. I think a lot of the up and down talk you hear is from the media and those experts on their boards. They are probably more subject to the way the wind is blowing and their guys move much more than the real GM's do.
