What is more absurd to me is sticking with this same S & C staff who have delivered some of the worst results over the last 6 seasons. Never have we been top 5, or even top 10. Our very best season we were ranked #16. The other 5 seasons we were ranked #27 or worse. Personally, I cannot conceive of how it would not correlate...

If there is ANY possibility that a modification in the conditioning program, practice routine, or anything else could help with even a few injuries next season, it needs to be attempted. Obviously many of the Packers injuries are unavoidable. But if there's anything that could possibly be done to improve player health, it needs to happen. Thoroughly investigate the problem and make it a top priority in the off season. A couple more healthy players could potentially change the outcome of the season.

Otherwise, the Packers need to plan on missing multiple key starters every season. As a result, they need to somehow have more talented depth or find a way to get more out of the depth they have. Otherwise, we'll be having this discussion next year, as well.

Injuries are all about LUCK! Other than that, everything I would tend to say is already said in Mucsy's posts.

I will now sit back and watch while a bunch of know-nothings rant like they think they know something.

Good luck with injuries per this metric doesn't necessarily correlate with winning it all, but it can help put you in position to compete. It is odd that 2 of the last 3 SB winners were in the bottom half, while 24 of the 36 teams to make the playoffs were in the top half of the metric.

In 2012, BAL was #13. SF was #1. 8 out of 12 of the playoff teams were in the top half. SF #1, MIN 2 and SEA 4.

In 2011, NYG was #26 and NE was #30. 9 out of 12 of the playoff teams were in the top half. BAL #1, NO #3, and DET 4.

In 2010, GB was #30 and PIT # 14. 7 out of 12 of the playoff teams were in the top half. KC, CHI and ATL were #s 1, 2 and 3.

I think this really points to overall depth of rosters, the quality of GMs filling those rosters, and, most importantly, who is getting hurt. I would argue GB, NYG and BAL have some exceptional personnel staffs. They've gotten players that can offset the Adjusted Games Lost to Injury metric with deeply talented rosters. That said, I do believe Ted has failed quite a bit over the last 2 or 3 years in terms of adding top talent, but that is not an easy thing to do picking towards the end of every draft, while completely ignoring FA. To me, this should be plain to see that this strict draft and develop mantra is not working. Ted Thompson needs to take a good look in the mirror after this season. This is the 3rd year in a row I'm thinking, "all we need is DL, LB and S help."

Sadly, I believe our high end in terms of talent was that 2010 season, and we have steadily declined from there, especially on D. Being dead last in 2012, with a roster not as deep as 2010 really hurt us, and that looks to have carried over to this season. After all is said and done in this 2013 season, I would venture our injury totals 2 out of these last 4 seasons will have been worse than 2010, with lesser talents on our rosters to fill those gaps. Both of those years we may find ourselves to be dead last in Adjusted Games Lost. I'm just speculating here, but dead LAST, 2 years in a row…??? Too many injuries, and key players unavailable when we really need them.

Maybe it is "luck." Sometimes you have to make your luck. Personally, I think we can do better. SF was #1 last year, and SEA # 4. I would imagine both are faring pretty well this season. We'll see. Maybe we should be looking to improve our strength and conditioning staff. What do we have to lose?

It sure does. We have been a very unhealthy, injury prone team over the past 6 years. Only fools continue to make the same mistakes while expecting different results.

I would fire that staff today, if not 2 years ago...

Nobody will argue that continuity among your starters is going to benefit you in the playoffs. The two Packers SB teams in the '90s were remarkably fortunate with respect to injuries. You also can't argue that the Packers have been hit hard with injuries of late. Yet again, just being ranked high in the number of injuries doesn't prove the conditioning staff is culpable.

Imagine this is what you wanted in a strength and conditioning coach ... now ... not based on the person (since I assume no one here actually knows the coach) - would you hire him based on the previous 6 years results as play2win spoke about?

...

Ill be a little more blunt - as play2win pointed out ... our dudes are getting hurt, sprains/strains/broken bones/neck injuries/needless surgeries etc ... and more then they should - something is wrong and it keeps being wrong.
In the real world people get fired when they dont perform.

Most of the injuries, especially to the key players we lost throughout the season were seen by all of us during the season.

Just this week we all saw how Shields and Neal got hurt. No way S&C can prevent those from happening or could they have contributed to how Mathews, Rodgers, Perry, and Cobb went down.

About all you can hope for is that this evens itself out over the next few years and the players can stay relatively healthy. Go ahead and replace the whole S&C group. If the results end up better it's going to have more to do with percentages and getting more in line with the norm then it has to do with that.

It was another snake bit year. We all saw these players and how they sustained their injuries and no S&C personnel could have changed one damn one of them.

Zero2Cool (52m) : Merry Christmas!
beast (9h) : Merry Christmas 🎄🎁
beast (17h) : Sounds like no serious injuries from the Saints game and Jacobs and Watson should play in the Vikings game
packerfanoutwest (22h) : both games Watson missed, Packers won
Martha Careful (24-Dec) : I hope all of you have a Merry Christmas!
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Oh I know about Jacobs, I just couldn't pass up an opportunity to mimic Zero lol
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : Jacobs was just sat down, Watson re-injured that knee that kept him out 1 game earlier
buckeyepackfan (24-Dec) : I needed .14 that's. .14 points for the whole 4th quarter to win and go to the SB. Lol
Mucky Tundra (24-Dec) : Jacobs gonna be OK???
Zero2Cool (24-Dec) : Watson gonna be OK???
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : Inactives tonight for the Pack: Alexander- knee Bullard - ankle Williams - quad Walker -ankle Monk Heath
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : No Jaire, but hopefully the front 7 destroys the line of scrimmage & forces Rattler into a few passes to McKinney.
packerfanoutwest (24-Dec) : minny could be #1 seed and the Lions #5 seed
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : We'd have same Division and Conference records. Strength of schedule we edge them
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I just checked. What tie breaker?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes its possible but unlikely. If we do get the 5th, we face the NFCS winner
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ahh, ok.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : yes due to tie breaker
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I mean, unlikely, yes, but mathematically, 5th is possible by what I'm reading.
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : If Vikings lose out, Packers win out, Packers get 5th, right?
bboystyle (23-Dec) : Minny isnt going to lose out so 5th seed is out of the equation. We are playing for the 6th or 7th seed which makes no difference
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, the ad revenue goes to the broadcast company but they gotta pay to air the game on their channel/network
beast (23-Dec) : If we win tonight the game is still relative in terms of 5th, 6th or 7th seed... win and it's 5th or 6th, lose and it's 6th or 7th
beast (23-Dec) : Mucky, I thought the ad revenue went to the broadcasting companies or the NFL, at least not directly
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think the revenue share is moot, isn't it? That's the CBA an Salary Cap handling that.
bboystyle (23-Dec) : i mean game becomes irrelevant if we win tonight. Just a game where we are trying to play spoilers to Vikings chance at the #1 seed
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : beast, I would guess ad revenue from more eyes watching tv
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I would think it would hurt the home team because people would have to cancel last minute maybe? i dunno
beast (23-Dec) : I agree that it's BS for fans planning on going to the game. But how does it bring in more money? I'm guessing indirectly?
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : bs on flexing the game....they do it for the $$league$$, not the hometown fans
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I see what you did there Mucky
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : dammit. 3:25pm
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Packers Vikings flexed to 3:35pm
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Upon receiving the news about Luke Musgrave, I immediately fell to the ground
Mucky Tundra (23-Dec) : Yeah baby!
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : LUKE MUSGRAVE PLAYING TONIGHT~!~~~~WOWHOAAOHAOAA yah
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I wanna kill new QB's ... blitz the crap out of them.
beast (23-Dec) : Barry seemed to get too conservative against new QBs, Hafley doesn't have that issue
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : However, we seem to struggle vs new QB's
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Should be moot point, cuz Packers should win tonight.
packerfanoutwest (23-Dec) : ok I stand corrected
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : Ok, yes, you are right. I see that now how they get 7th
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : 5th - Packers win out, Vikings lose out. Maybe?
beast (23-Dec) : Saying no to the 6th lock.
beast (23-Dec) : No, with the Commanders beating the Eagles, Packers could have a good chance of 6th or 7th unless the win out
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I think if Packers win, they are locked 6th with chance for 5th.
beast (23-Dec) : But it doesn't matter, as the Packers win surely win one of their remaining games
beast (23-Dec) : This is not complex, just someone doesn't want to believe reality
beast (23-Dec) : We already have told you... if Packers lose all their games (they won't, but if they did), and Buccaneers and Falcons win all theirs
Zero2Cool (23-Dec) : I posted it in that Packers and 1 seed thread
