I didn't explain myself well enough :)

The current regime already made a big attempt to match the big punter bluff made by our previous regime (Bj shanker)

Now I guess they didn't want to match the Hillenmeyer bluff

I bet our spies got a report about a team that was going to sign Lansanah and they decided that they didn't want another Hunter Hillenmayer case on their profiles.

The Hunter Hillenmayer pickup was not on the current regime. I believe that was the Charmin Era.

Um, maybe I'm wrong but isn't Chillar our best ST player? He's been praised as the most active on ST by coaches...

White was tied for third this year with 6 ST tackles.... not a huge loss IMO.

Hopefully he clears Waiver's and we can get him back on our practice squad!

That would be sweet.

Yeah, you're wrong, but that's okay. It happens to everyone. Just because someone leads in tackling doesn't mean they are the best Special Teamer we have. That's like saying AJ Hawk is better than Charles Woodson cbecause he has more tackles, but in reality, I would have to believe Woodson is better.

The coaches are the ones who've has said the great things about Tracey White on Special Teams.

Why don't you compare apples to apples? AJ Hawk is better than Nick Barnett, even though Barnett makes more tackles.

Last time I checked tackles doesn't equate to being the best.. assignment and match up responsibilities are.

Apparently they felt that Lansanah could effectively replace White in special teams and offer more help on the defensive side of the ball. Hawk didn't look real fluid out there.. so I am guessing that they will try to nurse him along to get him healthy.. maybe even sit him.

White may have been a good to outstanding ST player... but he never in the years he has been here made a significant mark on the defensive side of the ball..

IMO.. bigger picture than just ST.

That comparison isn't as obvious as the one I made. My example also was not predicated upon position as we are discussing special teams.

It's my understanding that some players are asked to break the wedge for other defenders to make the stops. But hey, that's apples to oranges and bananas with pineapples.... 😉

Yeah, regardless of how well White was as a Special Teamer, I agree with you that its more about being on the defensive side instead of special teams.

I jus don't like seeing our special teams (which kind of sucks this year) take another blow. BUT who knows, maybe this new guy will be a tackling machine on BOTH special teams AND defense.

Lansanah was drawing interest from Miami and we didn't want to lose him. This move might have happened anyway because even though White was very good on special teams, he was kind of a no-show in the base defense. The team obviously feels that Lansanah has more upside there, and if so, they made the right decision.

And, who knows? We probably won't be able to keep Hawk and Barnett together forever. Thompson might be looking for a future starter and he already knew he didn't have one in White.
