The league is different this season. There is parity, and there is a degree of weakness - more teams floundering than any year I can remember.

In 2010, the Packers were basically running a gauntlet - what was it, 5 or 6 regular season games, all "must win", just to get into the playoffs.

This season, there is legitimate hope we can run the table and go 14-2 even with all the injuries, youth, etc. And even if we don't it shouldn't take a super record to win the division. Furthermore, there is a strong chance of getting a bye in the playoffs - New Orleans has the tough part of its schedule still coming up, and the Cowboys or whoever wins the east probably won't have too great a record. It's not even out of the question to have the NFC top seed if the Niners beat the Seahawks the second time they play.

So in terms of our own team, yeah, 2010 and 2013 are similar, but in terms of the league situation in general, not so much.

I'd rather be compared to the 1966 team.

What I see is the two areas where there were lots of concerns expressed on this board at the beginning of the season coming thru for this team now when it's needed the most.

The O and D lines.

When Bulaga went down it was very concerning to see a rookie step in his place and a RT that had been pretty IFFY at the least. While they haven't been stellar they have been pretty darn steady.

Lot's of angst also with the Dline. Would Jolly be anything like he was? Daniels was too small. Pickett too old. Raji not worth the pick, etc. Ironically, the light at the end of the tunnel was Jones coming in and he's the one guy that really hasn't performed all that great thus far.

The Packers run offense and run defense has been the catalyst of the success for the team and thankfully this stems, in part, because these two groups of big guys has not been hit with the injuries other groups have seen.

Hopefully this continues because I could see where this team could really start to struggle if they had to start juggling the big guys around ON TOP of needing all these LB'rs and WR'rs to step up. They have all banded together and are pulling the train but there IS a tipping point there somewhere.

it's reassuring to know that over the next few weeks there should be an influx of players returning. I mean they aren't even half way through the season yet and the sidelines look like an Amtrac derailment reunion over there.

This LT we got really stepped up. The fact that we haven't really skipped a bit on the line from last year is a real testament to his talent and upside.

The D line has been a major improvement.

I'm not yet sold on the OL, though. The left side is starting to look pretty dominant in the run game, yes, but the right side is still average at best. And if it doesn't improve, teams are going to get increasingly better at scheming to stop Lacy running over Sitton.

And the pass game? That has improved, but I need a few more games to be confident just yet, too.

dfosterf (25-Jun) : Because I was too lazy to change my address, I haven't voted fot years until this year
dfosterf (25-Jun) : of the folks that run this team. I do not recall Mark Murphy being subject to our vote.
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Ed Policy yay or nay is on the pre-approved ballot that we always approve because we are uninformed and lazy, along with all the rest
dfosterf (25-Jun) : Weird question. Very esoteric. For stockholders. Also lengthy. Sorry. Offseason.
