My daughter started her first post college job today.
She is a history and econ double major so what is she doing? She is a law clerk for a suburban law firm. =d> =d> =d>
My wife and I are so excited.

side note- she has a young man who she enjoys being around. He treats her well.
Thanks to everyone who has helped me walk through the minefield without making a major mistake.

Thing is DT, our little girls have no idea how we suffer as we strive to give them all they deserve and more.
Then again many do. One of my favorite songs is a C&W tune. (I don't ever listen to C&W music.)
Daddy's Hands - Holly Dunn

I my little girl chooses that as our song to dance to I am ok with that.

I have learned a little more about her job since I first posted.

She works from 11-5.
Good news is there is no morning commute.
Bad news 30 hrs a week is going to make her part time with no bennys.
Good news is there is some training involved for her position so they asked her for a min commitment of a yr.
Bad news is if she does fine a better job she feels obligated to wait until the year is over. (Of course all things are more or less subjective. If she finds a job in 2 weeks she won't change. If she finds on in 6 months that doubles her income and provides benefits I don't think they would try and hold her back.)
So far she loves what she is doing. One of the jobs is to take legal documents across the street to the court house. They have a kiosk to file the papers. She enters the codes needed and puts them into the machine. It is an "attorney only" machine but apparently that means "attorneys and staff only".

That's great, wpr! Congratulations! You must feel very proud for raising your daughter and seeing the results of her working hard and being successful.

But- you listened to Dakota šŸ¤¦

haha j/k

I'm about to graduate, too, and almost daily I am thankful for my incredible parents because, as I have been exposed to more and more people in college, I have seen that it is a rarity these days. Being a parent may be the most difficult job, and we have some great ones on this board! =d>

good luck to you coltonja after graduation. I told my kids it is very very common to end up in a field outside of what your degree is in so don't let that frustrate you. You may come back around to it later in life. Not working in that field may be the best thing that ever happens to you.

My story of support begins with my grandparents and continues down through both sets of my parents (my wife's are included as my parents too.) through my sisters and brothers to my kids and nieces and nephews. My mother tells me when she gets together with her "old lady" peers all she hears is how their kids don't call or stop by to see them. How they hate their daughter-son inlaws yada yada. Every once in a while they stop bitching to ask my mom what is happening. She says that has has no complaints. She loves her children including the in laws and we all love her. We all call her or stop in for a visit including the adult grandkids. They don't believe her. And frankly Mom doesn't care.

as far as parenting goes just think of the old Peace Corps slogan, ā€œItā€™s the toughest job youā€™ll ever love.ā€ That doesn't even come close. There are a thousand long nites where you sit up with the kids. Countless trips to the doctors office or football practices. A bazillion times of being the arbiter between kids and one hug pays it all in full.
