I think this concurs with the reports in camp that he is trying to digest it all, speed of the game, being place under the extra pressure of learning to make the calls on the field.. I think the kid is still over thinking the game at this point.

IMO, much like Hawk does to much of.. thinking instead of just letting your instincts, the instincts that helped get you here, take over more until it all comes together.

My opinion is a thinking player makes less impact than a player that trusts what he sees and attacks on defense. You might be wrong.. but you are going all out right now. Thinking causes hesitation.. so while you might not make a mistake.. more than likely you are going to be late.

It is slightly different for an offensive player and maybe a safety where they have a bit more time to take information, process it cognitively and then react to it.

I will take an instinctive player over a smart player in the box on defense.. almost every time. You hit gold when you they get the game down to a point where they do both.

Terrell Manning had waited all of training camp for this moment.

After checking out of the initial read, the sea of offensive linemen had parted. A wide-open lane to Cincinnati quarterback Bruce Gradowski was the only thing in Manning’s line of vision. The Green Bay Packers rookie inside linebacker had the perfect opportunity to finally get noticed.

Lost in the final charge toward Gradkowski, Manning flip-flopped about whether to go for the sack or try to defend a possible pass. His body expression mirrored the conflicting battle in his mind.

While Manning’s eventual pressure up the middle forced Gradkowski to discard the ball, he also learned an important lesson – don’t hesitate.

A fifth-round pick out of North Carolina State, Manning realizes his first training camp has been more silence than spark at times, but Thursday’s game was a step in the right direction. It was a jolt of confidence the 22-year-old linebacker sorely needed entering the final week of camp.

“It was the first play I had the opportunity to make, really,” Manning said. “It was kind of like I don’t want him to throw the ball, but if he throws it I want to be able to make an impact. Great coaching point for me because it was a great time to make a play, but at the same time I realize just need to go at him and make the play, and let our coverage guys do their part.”

Manning seems to be one of those players that needs a little more time to put it all together. Hopefully, he gets that time. I think he will be a good player, maybe even an impact player. I have no evidence of this other than what I've read.

Everybody has a ceiling. I think what you meant was that he has a low ceiling? That could be, but I don't know why that would be true, it just takes more time. Bishop was much that way, the reason he wasn't on the field sooner was the coaches didn't have confience in him being assignment sure.

He's a rookie. Even pros hesitate from time to time. He's smart and physical. That's what matters.

I'm looking forward to seeing him this game as it looked like he made noticeable strides from the first two games. Hopefully, he will make even more this game. Any defensive improvement from any player is most welcome.

Mucky Tundra (3-Jun) : @ByRyanWood How much did the injury affect him last fall? “A lot.”
Mucky Tundra (3-Jun) : @ByRyanWood Kenny Clark said he had foot surgery in January. Injured his foot in opener against Eagles and played through it all year.
Zero2Cool (3-Jun) : Golden is wearing guardian cap again. I bet he plays with it on too.
Mucky Tundra (3-Jun) : All the stuff I'm reading from Lions fans are pointing at his toe; he more or less has permanent turf toe in one of his big toes
dfosterf (3-Jun) : Kenny played through it, and a shame he gets little credit for that, imo
dfosterf (3-Jun) : Big men. I hope it's not the undoing of Kenny Clark
dfosterf (3-Jun) : Probably his toe. Pretty much a great center. Toe injuries are brutal to bigen

beast (30-May) : Yeah, and I enjoyed your comments and just attempted to add to it. Sorry if I did it incorrectly.
wpr (30-May) : Beast I never said Henderson was the salt of the earth. Nor even that he was correct. Just quoting the guy.

Zero2Cool (29-May) : Whoa
beast (29-May) : OMG the website is now all white, even some white on white text
beast (29-May) : Henderson, who admits to taking cocaine during the Super Bowl against the Steelers, might dislike Bradshaw as he lost two Superbowls to him

Zero2Cool (28-May) : LaFleur on Watson: “Christian is doing outstanding. I would say he’s ahead of schedule.”
Martha Careful (28-May) : Bradshaw is a dumb ass cracker. I am so tired of his "aw shucks" diatribe. He should shrivel up and go away.
buckeyepackfan (28-May) : He wad all butt hurt because Aaron duped the media saying he was immunized.
buckeyepackfan (28-May) : Bradshaw needs to retire. He's been ripping on Rodgers ever since the covid crap. He was all hury
