Democrats will give you a hug, and stab you in the back telling you that they're doing it for your own good. The question is, where do you want to get stabbed?

Or we could just keep doing the same old and hope we don't keep getting the same old candidates without shaking up the system in a big way.

I don't think it's the system that's failing. I believe if we had honest people running the system, it would be just fine. But as porky88 said, people want to get power and keep that power.
