Love your post Pack, but I gotta answer the first part of the question. I think it's philosophical/religious as much as psychological.

Does a multiple personality person have multiple souls? If not, you're just sending one person to the after world (him or herself). So it's suicide. If the answer is yes, it's murder.

I absolutely LOVED being a History major. I heard from all my relatives "what are you gonna do, teach?" Well, they could screw themselves as far as I was concerned. I was in college to learn, not get a freaking job.

Anyways, my college courses were more like "why did the Japanese/Germans lose in WW2 and what could they have done to win?" Loved that stuff so much more.

If a computer can answer the question, then you might as well program humans to be computers. College should help us be more complete humans, not computers. Unfortunately, as you and I agree, it's headed in the latter direction.

I normally would jump in on this discussion since I am (i) a teacher of sorts and (ii) an historian of sorts, but ...

I had to sit through a four hour faculty meeting today. Good news -- I got my economic numeracy course approved. Bad news, that only took about 10 minutes, and I couldn't really leave.

And I've been grading pretty steady for the last 72 hours or so. (Not quite done; still have some essays to read and 14 grades to calculate before I can depart on the "pick up Thuji" trip.)

So my brain is almost completely fried.

I'll try to jump in within a few days if the thread is still alive.
