The roster size was changed from 80 to 90 players. The Packers have 64 on the roster currently and all unsigned draft choices will now count against that 90 player limit.

After the 3rd pre-season game, roster down to 75 and for the season it's still 53.

The Packers can add 26 players (12 most likely via draft) to the roster. Seems like a lot of swings for the Packers to find some gems!

We get more guys?

Yeah, we'll have a ton of players like everyone else to choose from. I would guess the signing of undrafted FAs will be a lot more intense. That should be interesting. 90 to start season. I would imagine the teams that are better at scouting and signing after the draft would have an edge. This might also free up the mindset in bringing in veteran FAs. They might get better looks and opportunities with teams, where they otherwise might not have had those shots.

Wish they would increase the game day limit from 45, and the overall roster from 53. The game day limit seems ridiculous and should be done away with.

with the NFL going the way of flag football, the roster game day size of 45 is not in danger of attention.

Uncle Teddy and Co are so good at mining and finding those diamonds in the rough it has to help. That said the final cut down will still be 53 so the benefit will minimal. He can only carry so much in his arms before he starts dropping stuff.

Glad to see some others think the same way. I never understood the idea of inactive players. They practice, are on the roster and get paid but can't play. It would give me no enjoyment for a team to have to play a non-QB at QB because their 3rd stringer was inactive - unless it enabled a SB win for the Pack!!! If they want to increase the roster limit that's fine also. But I don't see it 2 full roster players would be about the same cost as a whole other practice squad. The present practice squad makes sense because it can open up opportunities for those players to get on a roster and for teams snakebit at a position to get some kind of help; your own or someone else.

Giving the Packers 10 more players is huge as it would be for any team that believes in developing their own talent. 10 more players gives you more to compete with, more pseudo live action.

53 roster, but 45 active ... someone explained this awhile back and it made sense. Sure as heck wish I remembered what it was cuz I'm back to thinking it's foolish.

Edit, it's to provide more competitive balance so one team doesn't hoard more players than the other. Basically it ensure that if you have 3 injured players of your 53, you have to trim to 45 as does the other team to help ensure both teams have the same amount of healthy players.

I've been waiting for this ever since NFL Europe was disbanded, it used to be you would stash a few guys in NFLE. Now with no developmental league I think its great that they've increased the roster limits to give some of these guys a chance.

How does the new roster size help the Packers? Well, first off, 🇹🇹 trades away our 1st for more picks. What do we got now? 12? 🇹🇹 will want even more.
