Charles Woodson has missed more tackles the last two years than any other Packers player. Why would anyone want that player at Safety, the last line of defense??

I'm not saying anything about position changes, but who is a better tackler in the secondary? Shields? Tramon? Peprah (he seemed solid in 2011, but I don't like him). Perhaps Bush is close. But out of those players, I'll take Woodson every time. At least until if/when he proves that last year was not an exception. I'd be surprised to see a rookie drafted outside of the first round be a better tackler than him either, at least in their rookie season.

And I won't appease your aging ego either and why are the coaches saying he's not moving?

The Packers don't play much bump an run anymore, unless I missed something? I recall many times folks here whining about "why is the CB giving such a big ass cushion!".

We could have had Ed Reed back there last season, and he would have been made to look the same fool as everyone else in our secondary with our abysmal pass rush. A healthy Collins wouldn't have fared any better IMO. Our entire right side on the front 7 sucked! Pressure creates bad throws, poor timing, mismatches in secondary. This really is a team sport. Our secondary was one of the best in the NFL in INTs, two years running. One year we had a pass rush and won the SB. The other we didn't, and we got bounced, badly in the playoffs.

With no pass rush, the best DBs in the NFL will find themselves on the field too long, worn out, missing tackles, and giving up huge plays. All those 20+ yd receptions (most ever?) we gave up took time for those routes to develop. That's how badly we sucked front 7, and how desperately we need to upgrade DE, DT, NT and OLB. Add a veteran FA Safety to those additions and we are golden.

El3ment380, I would love for us to be able to get Collins back on the field. That would be awesome.

2009 I think he won Defensive Player of the Year.

I think Charlie Peprah is best and I think Sam Shields is the worst in the secondary at tackling. Shields seems like he more or less tries to get in the way, rather than tackle. Woodson tries, but just can't bring guys down for whatever reason. Actually the reason is probably because he's always using one arm to punch at the ball, lol.

Tramon Williams will do better if his shoulder is healed.

I like the Packers using Charles Woodson more in the slot coverage as a "Nickel" CB more than anything. He then gets to play rover and use his ball instincts.

I don't want to see Peprah out on the field ever because he's horrible and slow in coverage. I don't believe stats tell the whole story of missed tackles. Charles Woodson has been a great tackler in Green Bay. He continually puts his body on the line against much bigger running backs and such and has made some incredible plays behind the line of scrimmage. I wouldn't doubt that a significant percentage of his missed tackles are ones the rest of the secondary would only halfway try to make. Woodson is a physical corner and he's not afraid of contact. Tramon and Shields are almost strictly cover corners and neither is very physical. Perhaps Woodson has regressed to a point where he truly is one of the worst tacklers on the team, but I don't buy it. He's been solid for some time now and without the pressure to create miracle turnovers due to a pathetic path rush, I would expect him to return to being a solid tackler, especially after an "off year."

Well, after a certain whiff against the Giants last year I'm not sure I would put Peprah in the "good tackler" category either. If he's a better tackler than X, then X is a shitty tackler.

For whatever reason that I certainly can't explain, he was pretty much horrible in every way last season, in addition to most the secondary. Super Bowl hangover? Slight loss of that "drive" or "hunger" after becoming the champs? I have no idea, but it was horrifying to watch.

Though there won’t be any official word until next week, coach Mike McCarthy has been suggesting in public comments this offseason that he wants safety Nick Collins to retire after undergoing cervical fusion surgery in his neck last year, regardless of whether Collins’ surgeon gives him the OK to play football again.

I agree. There's nothing wrong with Collins, but MM wants him to retire anyway. Makes me sick. Unnecessary surgery to begin with.

What if Nick decides to play and the Packers don't want him to. Would they trade him and get something or cut him and get nothing? What might they get if they trade him?

Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : *had to be IRed at 53
Mucky Tundra (8-Aug) : beast, I thought the designate return from IR players had to be IR at cutdowns to 53, not before
beast (8-Aug) : It's a brand new rule, either last season or this season, prior, all pre-season IRs were done for the season
beast (8-Aug) : But the Packers would have to use one for their return from IR spots on him, when they cut down to 53.
beast (8-Aug) : I think the NFL recently changed the IR rules, so maybe the season might not be over for OL Glover.

Zero2Cool (6-Aug) : I thought that was the Lions OL
Mucky Tundra (6-Aug) : Travis Glover placed on IR; seasons over for him

dfosterf (5-Aug) : I'm going to call that a good move.
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : Packers sign CB Corey Ballentine
Zero2Cool (4-Aug) : I'm not sure how to kill the draft order just yet so it's not so confusing.
