While a neck injury is serious, if Nick Collins is 100% healthy and doctors are saying there is little risk to him re-injuring it, MM should change his thought process. Don't get me wrong, I understand the risk that comes with this but when all arrows (more than one) are pointing up the Packers should let Nick play.

Of course, this is all if everything is 100% okay...

Nick Collins is a smart guy and if he knew there was any risk whatsoever, he would hang up the pads. Just my thought.

If a number of doctors all give him 100% clearance that there is no greater chance for him to get unjured he should be able to play if he wants. That said, I can fully understand anyone's reluctance to have him play and if his decision is to retire. I believe the decision should be Nick's and his family.

I hope like crazy that Nick Collins is cleared to play, and that Mike and Ted bring him back to play for Green Bay. No injured player should lose his starting spot, if he can safely return from injury, and remain effective. At the time he went down, Collins may have very well been the best Safety in the NFL. If he could return to anything close to form, that would be great for both he and our team.

On the other hand, I can still understand the reluctance of MM and TT. While a doctor may say there is a slim chance of re-injuring, they can't predict the future and with how physical this game is today, there always will be that possibility of re-injury.

Nick wants to play...that's a known.

Johnny Holland came back from the same injury, only one vertebra higher.

JSO

In a game against the Houston Oilers on Dec. 13, 1992, in the Houston Astrodome, Holland suffered a herniated disc in his neck and chose to have fusion surgery after the season. The surgery went great and Holland returned to start all 16 games the following year, but in the 17th game, against the Dallas Cowboys in the playoffs, Holland injured his neck again.

It does not appear that the re-injury was due to the first injury, as it was the same exact situation with a player's body part coming straight down onto the top of his head. However I will note that it did NOT result in paraplegia.

It also sounds like Nick Collins is "upbeat."

Several players have been trickling into Green Bay. And around the team facilities, they see a good sign.

An upbeat, optimistic Nick Collins.

More JSO

"Once everything is healed, the risks are minimal" said Joseph Maroon, the Pittsburgh Steelers' team neurosurgeon and clinical professor at the University of Pittsburgh.

One thing to remember is that every player is at risk.
