One has to question the ability of the NFL to hand out penalties to both players, coaches and franchises alike in a fair and unbiased manner.

According to PFT , Payton had expected to hand the reins to Joe Vitt during the 4-game suspension he anticipated coming down the pike. But Vitt himself has been suspended for 6 games, so that plan has to be scuttled. This organization is in disarray at the moment.

Agreed... the draft picks hurt worst.

I know it is spilled milk, but this crackdown (deservedly if they have the evidence to prove intent) illustrates one thing. The Patriots got off cheap for disregarding a notice to cease and continue to garner an unfair advantage upon the field. Burning the tapes by the NFL without disclosing the contents is and has been the smoking gun in the whole deal.

Granted, it doesn't have the same shock effect as the word "bounty", it still was a cheating the integrity of the game. Clump in the basic ignorance of wrongdoing but the Broncos in the salary cap gyrations, albeit that was not on Goodell's watch, the NFL has a bit of an issue upon in hands going forward without some form of favoritism being even more prevalent than already shown.

As for what the Patriots did, don't all teams spend time reviewing footage of teams anyway? I think what they did was wrong, but they weren't putting bills down to end peoples careers.

I firmly believe that SpyGate had way more meat to it and that the NFL had a serious integrity issue on its hands, basically that the games we decided fairly without undue and unfair advantages through ignoring the rules set forth. Instead of exposing the issue and having to deal with years of questionable results upon the field, they chose to bury it and write it off as minor.

Hence, some of Goodell's words of protecting the integrity of the game mean zero to me. He chose not to disclose what was upon the spygate tapes.. for really not reason what so ever.

Just to properly frame my comments, I do not feel it is apples to apples in terms of the offenses of the Saints and the Patriots, clearly they are not. Health of players verses integrity of the game are completely different contexts.. but the underlying problem is not.

Part of the earning of integrity by the NFL of the fan base is to know that it is a equal playing field and that discipline is being doled out fairly. At this point, I think that is in question at best.

That's right, the Super Bowl is played in New Orleans this season, double whammy ouch. Time to bust out those paper bags with "aints" written in black marker on them.

Whom hears the appeals? The man that handed down the punishment.
