Just to catch you up....our daughter from Roswell, N.M., moved back home this past summer...you know the story; divorce; move home for a short while; yada yada!!
She brought her three dogs with her. Two small, well behaved dogs and Waldo, the German Wiener Dog, AKA "Bismarck." He is a sweet dog and he and our Yorkie (Murphi) our best buddies.
Well, being raised in "no-snow" country this winter has been a surprise for them. Especially Waldo, who is about 7 pounds over the weight limit for heavy cruisers, and whose legs barely reach the ground. This last snow storm really almost did Waldo in. 37 inches of snow is not what he is used to.....hell, 6 inches of snow is more than he can handle. Murphi has learned the more snow the better skidding on it, and has her "Murphi Sled Runs" all over the back yard.
So...last week we had some warmer weather and the top layer of snow melted a little, then froze over night. This continued for a few days until there was a nice crust of ice on top of about 2 1/2 feet of snow. Murphi, being a svelt 9.5 pounds, merely sprinted across the top of the snow, while poor Waldo would try it...get two steps and bam...back end would break through and he's stuck. After several "ass-end sinkings" Waldo got smart and used his weight to just plow through the snow and ice crust like a Great Lake Ice Breaker. Kind of funny. Murphi sprinting across the top of a few feet of snow and then this wake of snow with a black head just above snow line following her.
Then yesterday morning the dogs were out and I hear Murphi yipping and standing over this hole in the snow about halfway up our backyard. I start up there, in slippers and Packer PJ's, and suddenly this black head pokes up over the top of the snow hole and it's Waldo. I swear he was grinning and thinking...."Ha! I knew I could get you out in this shit with just your slippers on!"
I'm gonna kill those dogs............once the snow melts and I can get to them.
Anyone for a Weenie Roast?
