Hypothetically speaking, the Packers can keep only one. Matt Flynn or Jermichael Finley. Who do you keep and what is your reasoning?

So the question then becomes, to me, is the chance to get a 1st or 2nd round pick(likely a high pick from a bad team) vs a 3rd round compensatory pick worth the risk of losing Finley? For a high 1st it becomes a really tough choice, but I dont think it will come to that, so I think tagging Finley is a safer bet.

lol ... I said the Packers can keep only one!!! This eliminates what you think the Packers have a chance of doing! :P

I think a starting tight end holds more value than a backup quarterback who backs up a rather durable quarterback. If Aaron Rodgers was say Ben Roethlisberger then my opinion would change. I find this question difficult to answer myself because I believe Andrew Quarless and another tight end (not sure whom, I just expect someone to step up) could fill the void of Jermichael Finley.

I also believe retaining a starting tight end is less expensive than a back up (starting caliber) quarterback.

I would resign Jermichael Finley with an incentive based contract. Probably only a 3 year deal with an out after year one. If his drops continue and it costs the Packers a game or more... trade or cut and replace.

No question that I'd keep Finley in an instant.

Dude is magnificently talented. He does so much to free up others not only in coverage wise but in terms of using his body (Driver's TD catch is an example). Frankly I love his skill set and talent so much; if we did not have the weapons we do, I think he'd easily be able to compete with other young TEs for receiving yards and TDs.

The scary thing is, Finley still has room to grow. He's become a better blocker, but his catching could stand to improve.

On a personal level, I absolutely love his attitude. His whole "I'm the best, I'm gonna be a little arrogant and back it up by practicing hard to prove it out on the field" type of attitude has grown tremendously on me. I love his confidence and willingness to walk the walk after talking the talk.

I still think his YOTTO has not arrived. Which, if you think about it, is a pretty damn scary thought in the sense that he still has room to become more dominant.

In case after all that you could not tell my views on J-Mike / are too lazy to read the top, let me put it this way: AADP <3's Finley. A lot.

no doubt its Finley. Yes they have 5 TE but Jer has the potential to be a special one. Even when he drops passes he still commands a great deal of respect from the defense which helps free up the WRs.

Finley.

He is a starting tight end in a cluttered depth of tight ends and despite his drops this season, he is still the best tight end on the roster. He fits in the with the new style that some tight ends bring to teams; the ability to play tight end and play slot. There may only be one or two other tight ends that can actually play wide receiver in this league (Aaron Hernandez and Jimmy Graham) other than Finley.

While he isn't catching the ball he is busy taking on double coverage and creating openings for the receivers. While he does this, Matt Flynn is growing a beard on the sideline and learning from Rodgers. 😄

I think they are probably going to let Finley hit FA and let the market decide what he's worth. It doesn't sound like him or his agent is budging much from thinking he should be the highest paid TE so Ted Thompson will probably let him see what other teams are willing to give him and either match/top it or let him go (if some team decides to break the bank for him).

I'll bet Zero's left nut that Finley has a contract prior to free agency. Whether or not Flynn gets the tag as a result of the aforementioned is anybody's guess.

Zero2Cool (15h) : Fake news. Cowboys say no
Zero2Cool (16h) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (23-Jan) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (23-Jan) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Martha- C'est mon boulot! 😁
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you
wpr (22-Jan) : Z, glad you are feeling better.
wpr (22-Jan) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
