Alex Green is done for the year. Too bad. He looks like he has potential. Thankfully, there are already two good RBs on the team, and as long as they stay healthy, the Packers will be okay at that position this year.

Will they bring Brandon Saine up from the practice squad to take Green's place? I didn't see a lot out of Saine in the preseason, but it was hard to tell in limited action behind awful third string O-lines.

I was about to start a similar thread.

Saine, like the rest of the rookies and UFA's did not have much of a chance to prove themselves.

Ted and Mike had to get their 53 man roster put together in 4 weeks, Saine showed enough to be kept on the PS, hopefully he has worked hard and has shown improvement.

It will be interesting to see just how and when Ted replaces Green on the roster. I'm not 100% sure it will be with a RB.

CB Brandian Ross is on the PS, with all the injuries to the DB's, they may decide to stick with Starks,Grant and Kuhn as rb's, adding depth to the DB position.

Of course down deep I am really hoping Brandon Saine get his chance, he is a little smaller than Green, but did show the ability to catch passes out of the backfield and was a very good blocker when playing at Ohio State.

Packers are getting a little thin with Buckeyes on the roster.....TIME TO ADD ONE MORE TED!!!!!!

A big part of me went "who?"

Unfortunate for the young man. The team, however, will survive this loss.

Get better, kid.

Very unfortunate. He was starting to get more relevant in the Packers offense. The past couple weeks, I noticed him in for a play or two. McCarthy also said that he was starting to contribute more. I hope we bring up Brandon Saine, so we can still sort of have that speed back if need be.

I know it is conventional wisdom to attribute injuries to the random vagaries of (bad) luck, but the Packers have been beset with so many injuries the past few years that I can't help but wondering about the strength and conditioning staff. A lot of the trendy, newfangled methods of athletic training are gradually being shown not to be as effective at preparing bodies to be resilient to the rigors of contact sports as the more old-fashioned emphasis on raw strength, power and agility. I remember the Packers brought in a new strength coach a few years ago (can't remember his name) who was known for his supposedly innovative training modalities, which de-emphasized strength and concentrated more on high reps, and then the team had a spate of hamstring injuries the following two seasons. That coach is no longer with the team. I'd be curious to see what kind of training program the Packers have been on the past couple of seasons. People like Clay Matthews sure do seem to have some muscular imbalances in their legs.

Maybe there are certain types of injuries that may be correlated somehow with the training staff. That said, Alex Green got rolled up on from behind. His type of injury is unfortunately a part of the game that we'll continue to see until players are replaced by robots.
William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.

My comments weren't directed specifically at the Alex Green injury but more at the seeming statistical outlier that the Packers have been in the injury department lately. It would be interesting to do the math and see if the increased number of injuries sustained by the Packers in the past few years has been statistically significant.

beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
