Week 2 OL Chart There was really only one man that could put any sort of competition on this offensive line and that was Charles Johnson. He had a sack, a stuff, and a QB hit against this line. I believe he drew 2 holds (could be just 1...Game Rewind is down right now) and affected a number of other plays in our backfield. He's the real deal.
As for this offensive line, I liked Bulaga a lot less than I did last week, but he was going up against some stiff competition. And by a lot less, I'm talking about maybe a handful of plays in the game. Overall, he looks terrific and is clearly a part of the preferred run side.
Clifton, to me, continues to lose a baby step each year. Of course, he was also MUCH better in the second half of last season, so maybe it takes the same time to get back into rhythm out there for him. He's still a fairly nice pass protector, but looked flat out sloppy on a couple plays. Not entirely sure what happened on that sack allowed, but typically you don't want to allow Charles Johnson go 1 on 1 against Tom Crabtree. It would seem logical that Clifton was supposed to block down the other way judging by the way the snap played out. Wonder if someone could maybe correct this though if I'm wrong.
Our interior line looks like a strong, cohesive unit. They're doing a nice job preventing the pocket from being collapsed and Wells is making some nice combo blocks to open up holes in the middle. Behind Sitton, I think he's our 2nd best OL this year, but I assume Bulaga will comfortably settle into that role by year's end.
Next week brings a terrific test for this unit. Let's see where they really are against an elite Bears DL.
