My thoughts are the Packers just faced the one of the Bears best recent defensive coordinator (if not the best) in Ron Rivera (the now Panthers head coach), and the Panthers tried some tricks the Bears have used to slow down the Packers (like being physical with the WRs) and it worked early on...

After facing them this last week they SHOULD be ready to face them again this week. And hopefully they are.

Collins is out but so is their starting RT... keep rushing Matthews all day... he'll probably get double teamed but Raji should be able to get some push up the middle. We need another push rush to step it up... Walden hasn't been doing much, Howard Green hasn't looked the same guy as last year yet... Wynn has picked it up but still need to do a bit more.

Deep passes take time to develop. Can the Bears OL provide that time?

Correct me if I'm wrong... but the Packers were 2-0 last year against the Bears with Peprah starting? My guess Martz tried to key on them then as well.

I think Matt Forte will have a big game, and that will be okay as long as nobody else on the Bears offense has a big game. The Packers often seem vulnerable to those little dump-off passes to the RBs. (It's no coincidence that Collins got hurt on one of those plays.)

It's interesting that the Packers are 2-0 but looking a little shaky coming into this game in Chicago, because it was the exact same situation last year. Let's hope they don't break another record for committing penalties. I'm expecting a typical grind-it-out Packers-Bears game--pure torture to watch. I can't wait.

A couple plays when the offense doesn't know he's the one going deep... fine... but when they know he's the single guy deep.... that might be a problem. Pepreh best fit would be SS, and Burnett has enough coverage skills/speed to play FS. So they could put Pepreh back at SS and Burnett at FS.

Also since Burnett has become more physical this year I think it's questionable a better player, as they're both pretty dang good, but physical and both can cover a bit one on one.

I'm convinced this game comes down to our pass rush. We can dominate if we can exploit da Bears' OL. I don't think it's necessarily a bad line, it's just not good enough for Martz's system, which is notorious for getting QBs killed.

1.) The Bears defensive personnel is vastly superior to the Panthers. Carolina doesn't have a terrible defense. It was the strongest part of their 2010 campaign, but that doesn't say much given their #1 pick status. But, they lost Jon Beason (their best player) week 1, and they lost Thomas Davis during their week 2 matchup (that poor bastard has now torn his ACL in three consecutive seasons). Chicago has Peppers, Briggs, Urlacher, a host of other above-average guys.

2.) Ron Rivera is the head coach, and a Cover 2 disciple holdover from his Chicago d-coordinator days. However, his defensive coordinator is Sean McDermott -- a 4-3 zone blitz Jim Johnson disciple. McDermott was only given one year to live up to the ghost of the late Jim Johnson before being canned by Philly. All I'm trying to lead to is that the Panthers seemed to play more of a hybrid 4-3 defense than a more strictly Cover 2 defense.

Now, Green Bay and Chicago's twice-a-year matchup (and hey, sometimes thrice, like that time we sent them packing en route to the Super Bowl) probably does more to familiarize one another than anything else. That's why these games are typically so close. Each team has a good idea of what the other is going to do.

I know the Saints and Panthers seem to have two of the more explosive offenses this year so far but we've giving up a lot of passing yards. We've been lucky to stop them more often than not in the red zone to keep more points off the board.

But to slow down those passing yards, ether the coverage has to be better, the pressure has to be better or the offenses have to be worse. Coverage probably isn't gonna get better with Collins down and Williams not at 100%. The other two could get better for the Packers.

Also I read what seemed to be a very good article (sorry I don't have it saved or remember where it was at) but it talked about the Bears OL not giving up that many sacks since the second half of last year. They were just so bad the first half, and haven't added many guys other than the 1st round draft pick, that the reputation has stuck with them.

The article also pointed to other factors giving up the sacks instead of the OL, like Martz system calls for longer drop backs, holding onto the ball longer (which sometimes means holding onto it too long which equals QB hits/sacks), TEs one on one in blocking (part of the system... but the TEs have lost at times)

But there is a reason most QBs haven't lasted long in Martz system... the longer routes and drop backs lead to more hits and they get injured. Kurt Warner for a long time took them and did well and got right back up (like Favre). But other QBs after a while haven't been able to do so, they've gotten injured.

My prediction is... a super frustrating game that the Packers win as long as we don’t have 18 penalties.
