The Vikings are going to have to run double tight ends the whole year, just to get people blocked.

We cry about our O-line quite a bit, but I'm not trading ours for the Lions, Vikings, or Bears o-lines.

I wouldn't be surprised if 3 of the 5 teams with the highest sack total would come from the NFC North.... on both sides of the ball.

I missed the game, as I was making an ass out of myself, but if Shawn said the O-line didn't look that good at the point of attack, I believe him. I hope that gets fixed, although I don't see it as a critical point.

What I do see as a critical point is the d-line. I prefer to watch the defense and if there's one thing that's obvious it's that it all begins with a pass rush. And that that pass rush starts at the point of attack with the D-line. As soon as your big men create those double team scenario's, the rest will come. Even with average OLBs.

And Clay is all but an average OLB.

Yep.. of course the defense is vanilla.. it is preseason, but that doesn't mean guys should not be winning individual battles and standing up the blockers. No dots need connecting.

All I am saying, again it is early, that I think we are behind at the point of attack at this point comparatively looking at the competition, again most notably beyond the first string.

Preseason games, especially early games, are mostly about guys standing out and earning a spot on the team past the starters.. getting put in situations so the coaching staffs can evaluate. As noted many times.. been that way since the start of time.

But the still doesn't change the on both sides of the ball we struggled more than we didn't.. and it is early and correctable.. nothing to fret about but just the same we have work to do in a competitive nature.

By the way, I firmly believe the latter.

Mike Neal made a nice tackle on Peyton Hillis. He showed nice pursuit on a few plays. B.J. Raji wasn't anywhere to be seen, but Alex Mack whipped him in last year's preseason game as well. I believe Clay Matthews played four plays.

In my view, the line play is a mild concern coming from this game. Well, unless you're concerned neither Lang nor Sherrod really did anything to jump out.

Erik Walden in pass coverage looks concerning. Patrick Lee was awful, and Marshall Newehouse did not play as local media has advertised him. Frankly, Graham Harrell was holding onto the ball too long and wasn't decisive at all.

Flynn and Rodgers played fine. The first and second team offenses played fine. The third team offense looked like a third team offense.

Look, I understand wanting to see more aggression out of some of the guys, but I saw nothing that has me believing the Packers are behind of their schedule or the schedule of other teams such as Atlanta.

I... lets see.. hell no. lol.

Your triangle of authority built it.. and well you have to deal with it. Curious.. how did they look sans McKinnie?

NFL Offensive Line rankings
Number 32. Minnesota Vikings

LT: *Charlie Johnson
LG: Steve Hutchinson
C: John Sullivan
RG: *Chris DeGeare
RT: Phil Loadholt

This offensive line was a liability last season, and it's gotten much worse. Right guard Anthony Herrera (ACL, triceps surgeries) is likely headed for PUP to open the season, but he's not the Vikings' biggest loss. That honor goes to left tackle Bryant McKinnie, who gained so much unhealthy weight during the lockout that Minnesota had to release him a few days into camp. Johnson has been getting eaten alive by Jared Allen and Everson Griffen so far in August, and is better suited to guard. Hutchinson's performance has declined so rapidly that there were rumors he'd be cut in the offseason. Sullivan is replacement-level at best and DeGeare is a total projection.
Adrian Peterson will be running behind the worst offensive line of his career this season.

Bad can be good, right about now. Our line looked "all-world" last year, in the pre-season, imo.

Then the real games started, with the real defenses, and they went back to their usual collective suckage.

Aaron learned how to duck, and we got better, but that's another story, for another day.

I'm just saying, again- at this time, there's a real argunent to be made for "bad" over "good", for corrective/collective over-confidence//arrogance-purposes amongst the o-linemen.

It's a theory.

beast (12h) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (12h) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22h) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22h) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Aaron Glenn Planning To Take Jets HC Job

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you

wpr (22-Jan) : My son and D-I-L work for UM. It's a way to pick on them.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.
wpr (22-Jan) : Beast- back to yesterday, I CAN say OSU your have been Michigan IF the odds of making the playoffs were more urgent.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ohhhhhhh Zero is in TROUBLE
packerfanoutwest (21-Jan) : Zero, per your orders, check Bearshome, not packershome
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Then he'll land with another team and flourish.
Zero2Cool (20-Jan) : Ben going to Bears. He'll be out in 3 years.
