Scott WellsThough Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers has yet to round up his wideouts for lockout workouts, the man who snaps Rodgers the ball has taken the bull by the horns.

Alex Marvez of FOXSports.com reports that center Scott Wells organized three days of workouts for a total of eight Packers offensive linemen, including starters Chad Clifton and Josh Sitton.  The sessions were conducted in Franklin, Tennessee.

“A couple of guys had called me and I think were stressed out over the offseason uncertainty and not seeing each other,” Wells said.  “They expressed that they wanted to get together, do some football drills and talk shop.

“It’s been tough.  You’re used to seeing the same guys every day.  Now, you don’t see them and don’t know when you’re going to see them again.”

Though Wells said that he hopes the lockout ends sooner rather than later, the Packers are one of the few teams that would benefit from a short period to prepare for the 2011 season, given that they played into February and that they have most of their players returning.  Indeed, it will be easier for the Packers to get back to the Super Bowl if the Packers and their 31 competitors ultimately are forced to slap together preparations for the season on the fly.

It's about time someone steps up to be a leader.
I'm very disappointed it wasn't Aaron Rodgers.
Other teams have been doing this for weeks.

Well done Wells...=d>

Wells is the man!!!!
I agree with other posters, Where is Aaron Rogers?
Also what about defensive leaders...Woody, Cm3, AJ Hawk? Hopefully the team will start getting together soon for workouts.

The point is made The Packers will have an easier time to put together a working plan, but IMHO they will keep falling behing other teams who have been working out.

It's not as if each player isn't working out. They don't have to work out as a group to achieve the same results. Every 'expert' I've heard talk about these private workouts has agreed that beyond building comradery among teammates these events have little value. The Packers and Steelers played the longest than any other teams in the NFL and were hitting on all cylinders to the end. Their "extended" break is deserved. The only players I would like to see getting work are the rookies mostly. Any veterans that are willing to help them out are awesome, but certainly no requirement in my book. That was a long streak of road games the packers went on and I want them to be as fresh mentally as possible in order to maintain the same level of motivation as they had last season.

That raises an interesting point. Given that none of the rookies are yet under contract, what would be the potential ramifications of one of them joining one of these informal workouts? I have to think the agents would be strenuously opposed to such a gambit, since if they got injured during such a get-together, they could probably be cut summarily.

The people who stand to lose the most in this lockout are the undrafted free agents. They are getting fucked.

There was a report that Brady had over 40 patriots together this week for workouts in Boston. As Dodd mentioned, practically speaking they probably accomplish little to nothing. However, it's discouraging to not see the initative. From an outsider's perspective it looks like complacency.

Granted he was a 1st rounder, but we've seen how long the team has held onto Harrell so I'd imagine the team would exercise some patience with a rookie who got hurt while going above and beyond.

I think the rookies lacking access to training facilities and any form of health insurance (I'm assuming that comes with an NFL contract) would be as much a deterant as anything.

I'm sure they could care less what outsiders think about their effort, after all, they are the defending champions. Who are "they" to question them? This doesn't concern me in the least, and won't for at least a few more weeks . . . if then. A few veterans mentoring the rookies would be enough for me.

As for Non's question, there are definitely several rookies participating in these things, so injuries must not be a huge concern for such light workouts.

Zero2Cool (1h) : Mystery candidate in the Cowboys head coaching search believed to be Packers ST Coordinator Rich Bisaccia.
beast (15h) : Also why do both NYC teams have absolutely horrible OL for over a decade?
beast (15h) : I wonder why the Jets always hire defensive coaches to be head coach
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season

beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.

beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Oh snap!!!
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Even Stevie Wonder can see that.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : Nah, you see Lions OC leaving to be HC of Bears is directly related to Packers.
