Just to make this clear...I'm a Ted Thompson fan / supporter and always have been. I just don't like the idea of dropping Hawk. He's the exact type of player that Green Bay is looking for.

I don't think they would cut him if they expected to lose him over it. Hawk has probably agreed that is part of the process of getting his new contract done. He knew it would be a voided year when he signed it. I was just an incentive for the Packers to redo his contract before the start of the 2011 season.
I want to go out like my Grandpa did. Peacefully in his sleep.
Not screaming in terror like his passengers.

Well, if this is true, i'm pretty happy about it, as i'm not in the "Hawk didn't live up to a #5 pick, so he sucks!" camp.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/03/03/report-a-j-hawk-flying-back-to-green-bay/

A.J. Hawk didnt enjoy being an ex-Packer. Cut Wednesday by the team, it looks like Hawk is already back in the fold.

Lance Allen of NBC 4 in Milwaukee reports that Hawk is scheduled to fly back to Green Bay on Thursday to sign a new five-year deal. We havent heard confirmation on the report elsewhere yet, but the news isnt a huge surprise.

We passed along a report Wednesday evening that the Packers and Hawk would continue talking in hopes of hammering out a deal before the clock struck midnight on the current collective bargaining agreement.

With Hawk back in the fold, the question now becomes whether Nick Barnett will return to the Packers. (Were guessing . . . no.) Barnett is due over $6 million in 2011, and coach Mike McCarthy already indicated Desmond Bishop would be a starter next year.

Bishop and Hawk would both by signed through 2014 if Allens report is correct.

Sweet. Now we can use Barnett as ammo in the draft. Take out the garbage, Ted!

We could always just keep barnett for a solid rotation piece/depth just for shits n giggles. You know, just in case we have 16 guys on IR next year. Nah, that will never happen.

I agree depth is important, but Barnett has been in the NFL a while now, has never been a back-up yet, and at times doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut (twitter). So if Barnett isn't a starter and isn't happy being a back-up (he won't be) then keeping him around might not be the best thing for the locker room...

On the other hand Woodson has talked about how Barnett goes 100% in practice and it reminds Woodson he needs to go harder in practice...

So the call could go ether way IMO... even more so if someone offers a good draft pick or something good for him.

I believe Hawk will Re-Up with the Super Bowl Champions... In fact It is a lock.

However... This was interesting...

The Green Bay Packers cut linebacker A.J. Hawk. The team wants to re-sign him.

If he doesnt re-sign, I could see marginal interest in the AFC West. Even though he has played in the Packers 3-4 defense the past couple of seasons, many scouts think Hawk is best suited to be a weakside linebacker in a 4-3 unit. The Denver Broncos, who are moving to a 4-3, will likely use D.J. Williams at weakside or middle linebacker. Hawk is the brother in-law of Denver No. 3 quarterback Brady Quinn. Still, some 3-4 teams may still be interested. The Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers both employ a 3-4 defense that could use inside line help.

Nick has been on IR two years in a row now and he is turning 30. So if you want guys to be on IR again next year, just bring back some guys like Nick.
@RaiderPride, yeah there's talk that Hawk is more suited to the 4-3. But a guy like Capers knows how to use his guys to get the maximum from them. In Capers we trust!

Matthews
Bishop
Hawk
Barnett
Chillar

I think that's our best 5, not considering position.
