James Starks (Or Baby Eddie George as I like to call him) has a lot of potential. He doesn't run to daylight though. He runs to contact, which isn't a bad thing, but also takes away the homerun threat. Grant runs to daylight and I think will have every chance to regain the starting job.

The great thing about Starks is that he can take some of the pounding off Grant. I really believed that limited some of Grants home-run hitting ability that past two years.

Jackson is a great third down back. Just don't be surprised if some other team offers him starter-type money to be more than that. In that case, getting a small Sproles-type back that can return kicks would be a good idea.

I would say this is only half right. Ryan Grant tends to bullheadedly run into the middle of the line, even when there are holes toward the perimeter, and he rarely makes more than one cut. James Starks is much more likely to head for the edge and consistently find holes. So while he may not break as many long runs, judging from what I've seen so far, I think in the long run he'd actually accrue more yards. At the very least he'll have more runs for positive yardage and fewer for no or negative yardage.

Grant is the starter. If Mike sees something he likes in the middle of the season I would not be surprised that Starks picks up more of the the load.

I voted for Starks because I have more faith in him even though I doubt he gets the job.

I agree with Twinkiegorilla.

I voted Grant, but it will be fun to see what Starks is capable of with a full offseason program.

Ryan Grant 40 Time: 4.56
James Starks 40 Time: 4.57

When were these taken? Grant more than likely will lose a step, or at least 2/100 of a second 😉 , after his injury.

To be fair, everyone saw how much we missed Ryan Grant before James Starks took the field. Come the playoffs, one can still consider James Starks to be "fresh" compared to all the worn down players from playing so much football already. I do not want to take away from what Starks did for the Pack in the final weeks of the season and the playoffs, but he definitely had more "gas in the tank" than most players did.

That being said, I think Grant is needed in the ZBS system and will be at the #1 spot. Maybe he will just be considered #1 but him and Starks will split time depending on the progression of Starks with all the offseason work.

I voted Grant, but this can definitely go a different way.

I say let Starks and Grant battle it out in training camp. Starks has earned a chance to compete for the starting job straight up, and while Grant's got the experience that doesn't mean his job is secure. He's got to learn how to always get that extra yard or so going down that Starks does. If he can do that and hit the hole more consistently he's got the job. If Starks shows what he has in the postseason and grows a bit as a player, Grant better get used to the bench when NOT injured.

This.

It would suck for Grant to lose his job due to injury, but if this team wants to repeat it needs to have its best players on the field. Lace up the cleats, tighten the chinstrap and earn your starting position in camp and preseason. May the best man win.
