ESPN's statistician was on this morning. He said in the playoffs this year the team that has both more rushing attempts and more rushing yards has won EVERY Playoff game.

The Packers outrushed the Eagles, Falcons, and Bears.

I am not concerned.

Yes, Starks will get some carries. Guaranteed. I hope he lights them up. But I'm realistic about it. It's the Steelers D. Look at how they played the run vs the pass all year long.

I agree.. we are not going to "light" them up. (From the post you quoted)

I expect us to struggle to run the ball for a high YPC.. but I expect us to put in the attempts similar to post the Lions game. IMO.. it was that game where Mike McCarthy realized that he has to mix up play calling enough and varying the looks in which he ran the ball enough to truly open the passing offense up.

On the statistics.. I was there Sunday night after the Packers beat the Bears and the Steelers prevailed.

I have compiled stats, game tape and a jealous wife because of the amount of time spent on the research. I don't just throw things out there.. there is a boat load of time spent more so watching games than in the stats.. but I don't ignore the stats.

http://www.packershome.com/ForumsPro/viewtopic/t=11789.html

1. Their corners. I don't care how much they write about the Steelers defense.. but you can attack this defense on the edges. This is not a very good group and rely on the front of the defense to minimize their exposure.

I expect a couple early double moves to force LeBeau to adjust his scheme for the day.. bring some of the heat off the pressure packages and making him drop additional guys into coverage to allow the Steelers safeties to play over the top and protect the corners.

All I want is a win.. and I thought after the Lions game that Mike McCarthy would adjust.. he has and we are playing our best ball of the season.

Well, that's how I feel. I just want a win and I think Aaron gives us our best shot offensively.

I don't care if we win by Aaron handing the ball off to Starks and Starks getting 400 yards rushing, or if we don't run one attempt and throw the ball 50 times and get 5 TDs. I really don't care. The end result is all I care about.

I'm just using my history skills to show that the way to attack the Steelers is through the air. Yes, Troy P is perhaps the best DB in the NFL but just don't throw in his direction. Don't be surprised if we see a lot of play action and maybe even a flea flicker.

Nobody's been able to run against the Steelers all year. If we can, awesome. I just don't see it happening. Would LOVE to be wrong, as for what I said - all I care about is the win.

The stats speak for themselves. Wish some people took the time to see them. The teams that beat the Steelers were the ones who aired it out.

I don't know if saying the teams that beat the Steelers were teams that aired it out, I don't believe that's true. I do believe that teams that used a spread style passing offense scorched the Steelers, but maybe that's being nitpicky?

Steeler wins the oppositions passed 66.8 % of the time.

In the Steeler losses.. the opposition passed the ball 60.7% of the time..

In games were the oppositions running backs ran the ball more than 20 times.. the Steelers averaged 1.5 sacks a game.. in games the oppositions didn't run it 20 times with the backs.. 3.8,

That is if you only want to look at the stats.. but in reality there is more to the game, the results and the stats than just what the stats represent.

Do Philbin's comments count as the first play-action pass of the game?

Seriously, I agree with Pack93z that rushing attempts, not rushing yards, are what is most important. If you are super pass-oriented (not that anyone here is) just think of the rushes as set-up plays, like those little sideways passes to Driver and Jennings that usually gain about nothing but cause the CBs to lean forward just a bit on subsequent plays.

Ike Taylor is a shutdown corner. Throw it towards McFadden, or if they're in a nickel or dime, try to target those guys (William Gay and Anthony Madison). This is the time when having 4 great WRs who are great at running short routes really pays off. I'm gonna sound like nerdmann here but I'd really like to see the short quick passes a lot on Sunday.

I'm not disputing it, but I've never heard Ike Taylor called a shutdown corner before.

I'm not saying shutdown corner as in Champ, Revis or Asomugha, but Ike Taylor has allowed less than 55% pass completion and only 1 touchdown this season. That's some good ball right there.

How many prolific passing teams does Pittsburgh play in a year? They get their boring division teams for 6 games a year. The lost to New Orleans and New England, should have lost to Buffalo, lost to Atlanta. I think they are overrated and we are underrated.

We might not get the respect from the hack journalists, but all those defensive coordinators know what we have, and they don't want to play us. This offense is better than what we had in the mid 90's. Get ready for a nice long ride boys, cause Uncle Ted will keep those cupboards stocked up.

got to agree - Im predicting at least a 2 TD lead over the steelers and us keeping that unless Mike McCarthy goes soft and lets em get 1 TD in the end...

also Im imagining next season once we get grant, finley, and our whole Dline and burnett back. We almost dont need to draft well have so many players returning to a SB winning team.
