Back to back pack players for DPOY way to go Clay!!

As noted at the beginning of the thread, this is not the AP award, which is the one that is considered to be official. That one hasn't been announced yet.

Did they also play opposite of Brad Jones, Brady Poppinga, Brandon Chillar, Frank Zombo, Erik Walden?

Wake, Suggs and Hali had virtually no help from their other OLBs either. So Clay's not the only one without talent backing him up.

As for someone saying Clay gets doubled etc. my question is: which one of the 5 listed OLBs isn't doubled usually?

PS. I freakin' hate being in the anti-Clay side of this. I love the dude. But DPOY? No.

Just for the record, they also voted Sitton out of the Pro Bowl.

He got overhyped early on after his dominating first two games. Everyone didn't notice the dropoff in his play after that.

Also, Rockmolder's post.

I have friends that are fans of a wide array of teams, and they are all in agreement that Clay deserves the award from the AP when it comes down. We are like the drunken Mothers and Fathers of the Packers players. We are their biggest fans, but also their toughest critics. Even when they excel, we find things that are wrong and tear them apart for it. I don't think the average Packers fans do this, but those of us who consider ourselves to be "SuperFans" (all of us on this board, presumably), are we too hard on the Packers? Does Clay deserve it and are we actually reaching to find things that are wrong with his play? Or is it that we just pay so much closer attention to the Packers that we notice things that others don't, and they just say Clay deserves it because they heard Mike and Mike talking him up? Just a thought.

I'm not saying he's played bad. Just not at a DPOY level after the first two games.

In my opinion there are guys who deserve it more than him. He's not the best 3-4 OLB. He's not our best defensive player (Tramon is). But I won't be mad if he wins it, after all he's still Clay and he's awesome.

The one thing that I never thought of until I read all of the posts on this topic is that Clay certainly garners more attention from offenses than any player I've seen for a long time. He is always being double teamed, and in the midst of that, he continues to make plays. Sure, they aren't as often, but he still does. Also, every time he is double teamed, that is one less guy that is getting paid attention to for our defense, allowing other players to get their names in the paper.

This is why Rockmolder gets a stiffy for every rushing 3-4 OLB / 4-3 DE (that is viewed as a potential 3-4 OLB) in the draft.
