he is done. i'll be shocked if he takes another snap this season. he is actively convincing himself that his legacy remains intact, he doesn't need to prove anything else, & that he'll be talked about in a positive way for years to come.

I will never understand the hushed tones of reverential nostalgia and the starry eyes with which people speak of Brett Favre, but if it brings meaning to their lives, more power to them, I guess.

I will say that the end of the streak brought me no pleasure either. It's just so tattered and outworn I want it to go away. Watching professional football will be a much more enjoyable experience when the spastic reflex of every commentator's tongue is not to reach for the word "BrettFavre" every time they're in need of a moment's filler.

Yeah, toward the end Brett Favre got to be like a movie that one has watched too many times. I have to give him his due for having a great season in 2009, but still, when you put that season together with 2008 and 2010, I think the comeback did his reputation more harm than good. Mostly he just wanted to keep playing because he doesn't know what to do with himself if he's not playing.

As I've said before, I think he's going to have a very hard time adjusting to retirement. He will probably make his wife miserable--if nothing else, just because she will have to watch him be miserable.

I said for the last 2 years, he should quit while he still has "it" and his health.
He didn't listen.
Now he looks old, and washed up. Just as i figured he would go out.
A sad ending, if you ask me.

Very Johnny Unitaslike.

At least he set the Vikings back a few years. Thanks Brett.

It was really over before the year started. They have just been dragging the corpse of his career along for the 300. It would have been even sadder had he made it. Knowing the last 16 game were a total a sham.

A 69 rating on that last year makes it a year too long. You can't look at that and say he went out on top. That is one step above going out in a body bag.
I want to go out like my Grandpa did. Peacefully in his sleep.
Not screaming in terror like his passengers.

So, if I read your post correctly, you were saying that he should quit before he had one of, if not the best, statistical seasons of his career? If he had the same "luck" with injuries not happening and some semblance of an offensive line performance this year, who's to say it wouldn't have been the best 2 years of his statistical career?

I dunno, just seems a little odd you'd lump an MVP type year in with one where he was beaten like a rented mule to show that you "called it".

Merry Christmas to you and yours though!

Yup jdlax!
That's EXACTLY what i said.
What exactly did he gain by sticking around too long? Does he have a 2nd Super Bowl ring? Maybe if he did, i'd say you are right.
So he had one good year. Now that he's been beaten half to death, may suffer injuries that last for the rest of his life, i bet even HE wishes now he would have quit.
The thing is, knowing when to walk away. He chose not to, and now goes out looking like a beat up old man.
As was sated, very much like Johnny Unitas. You are probably too young to remember that. It's sad watching a once great athelete looking horrible.
Bart Starr did the same thing.
So.....i'm wrong for what i said, and for pointing out that it's ended just as i feared it would? Does that make me wrong, for pointing that out?
Merry Christmas to you too, my friend!

I guess alls I'm saying here is that it just seems strange to me that you would include last year as one that he should not have played. If not for a mistake that he would have made at 20, 30, or 40 years old, he would have been "the guy" putting the Vikings in the Super Bowl. This year, it's pretty obvious with a little hindsight that playing wasn't the best of ideas, but last year? He had a better season than the donkey they slapped the MVP hat on! 🙂

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Still HC positions available out there. I wonder if Hafley pops up for one
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Trent Baalke is out as the Jaguars GM.
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Jeff Hafley would have been a better choice, fortunately they don't know that. Someone will figure that out next off season

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : Thank you. I rarely get sick, and even more rarely sick to the point I can't work.

Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : I've been near death ill last several days, finally feel less dead and site issues.
Zero2Cool (22-Jan) : It is a big deal. This host is having issues. It's frustrating.
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : just kidding...it was down
Martha Careful (22-Jan) : you were blocked yesterday, due to a a recalcitrant demeanor yesterday in the penalty box for a recalcitrant demeanor
dfosterf (22-Jan) : Was that site shutdown on your end or mine? No big deal, just curious
beast (21-Jan) : That way teams like Indiana and SMU don't make the conference championships by simply avoiding all the other good teams in their own confere
beast (21-Jan) : Also, with these "Super Conferences" instead of a single conference champion, have 4 teams make a Conference playoffs.
beast (21-Jan) : Also in college football, is a bye week a good or bad thing?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : The tournament format was fine. Seeding could use some work.
beast (21-Jan) : You can't assume Ohio State would of won the Michigan game...
beast (21-Jan) : Rankings were 1) Oregon 2) Georgia 3) Texas 4) Penn State 5) Notre Dame 6) Ohio State, none of the rest mattered
wpr (21-Jan) : Texas, ND and OSU would have been fighting for the final 2 slots.
wpr (21-Jan) : Oregon and Georgia were locks. Without the luxury of extra playoff berths, Ohios St would have been more focused on Michigan game.
wpr (21-Jan) : Zero, no. If there were only 4 teams Ohio State would have been one of them. Boise St and ASU would not have been selected.
Zero2Cool (21-Jan) : So that was 7 vs 8, that means in BCS they never would made it?
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : A great game. Give ND credit for coming back, although I am please with the outcome.
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : FG to make it academic
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : and there's the dagger
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooo 8 point game with 4 minutes to go!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : ooooooooohhhhhh he missed!
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Ooooo that completion makes things VERY interesting
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Game not over yet
beast (21-Jan) : Oh yeah, Georgia starting quarterback season ending elbow injury
beast (21-Jan) : Sadly something happened to Georgia... they should be playing in this game against Ohio State
beast (21-Jan) : I thought Ohio State and Texas were both better than Notre Dame & Penn State
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame getting rolled
Martha Careful (21-Jan) : Ohio State just got punched in the gut. Lets see how they respond
Mucky Tundra (21-Jan) : Notre Lame vs the Luckeyes, bleh
