During the Holmgren era, it seemed that you couldn't wait for the 3rd quarter because the team was so good at halftime adjustments. Favre and co. would rack up big points, and Schurmur (sp?) would go for the kill on defense.

Billick mentioned that this year's team has outscored their opponents 70something to 23 in the 3rd Q, and after outscoring SF 14-3, it's clear that this year's team is pretty good at doing the same and adjusting throughout the game.

I don't have a particularily sophisticated football mind (who am I kidding, I ain't 2 smrt @ much) but this certainly seems to be a real strong sign of the competency of our coordinators and coaching staff.

I'm not disagreeing, but I do wonder, if they're so competent, why can't they have the team ready for the first half?

I don't care which quarter is their best quarter. Last year the third quarter was their weakest quarter and some fans bitched about it, and I said it didn't matter, so I'm just trying to be consistent here.

I'm not saying that we've got Vince Lombardi on our hands, I'm just pointing out that one (of many) sign of a good coach in any sport is adjusting to a situation.

The team has brought back the 5 wr sets, figured out how to get the rbs more involved (shorter passing game), has adjusted at half well, and in general has shown the ability to evolve in many ways throughout the season.

Perhaps MM is really good at laying into his team after poor starts. Supposedly he was cursing at them in the locker room at the halftime of the Buffalo game(which we started slow in as well) and we went on to crush them(same sort of scenario today).

I guess I've become skeptical of the whole idea of halftime adjustments. From what I hear, NFL teams are constantly making adjustments during games, and I don't think they make many more adjustments during halftime than they do at any other point in the game. Often there are momentum switches at the beginning of the second quarter or the fourth quarter or at any point in the game, really.

If anything, I think halftime can cause emotional swings more than anything. I see it in tennis matches sometimes, when there is a rain delay. Players seem to hit an emotional reset button when there is a long pause in the action, which can work either for or against them.
