When his team plays well consistently throughout the season, he'll be a candidate. And btw, Jackson is better than Grant and Bishop is better than Barnett. Peprah may not be better than Burnett, but he's playing lights out. AND he's not a rookie. We lost some guys on the DL, but guys are stepping up. Finley was a loss, but we've got depth there too.
When his offense can regularly show up for a full 60 minutes, then I'll consider his ass.

Dom Capers has saved his ass. His expertise is specifically in the passing game, which again, I believe has not reached its potential yet (not even on the same level as last year).

Capers gets the most out of his players. I'm not sure we can say the same thing about McCarthy.

Please remember this the next time you put the sole blame on McCarthy when they lose a game like they did last year to Tampa Bay 38-28.

He should get The Coach Of The Year Award just because of his challenge flag talents, and the fake field goal call.

Serious: When the Paackers roll on to 11 wins and go very deep... he will be the Coach of the year.

"RaiderPride" wrote:

That. Even if we got 9 wins, I'd say he's a candidate if the Offense hadn't dropped off like it had. Ted gets a lot of credit for depth, but if I blame Mike McCarthy for lack of discipline on the field, I'd better give him credit for expecting starter-quality play from his backups, and in many cases getting it. Playcalling could be better but I'm encouraged from the Vikings game.

IMO Mike McCarthy should lose his job (tt would never fire his assman), but at the very least the coaching staff under him should be carefully reevaluated, regardless of the team's collective performance this year.

Has anyone noticed every coach Mike McCarthy has hired himself has sucked?

Even take out the last two if you want to think McCarthy did not hire them directly, the first three are pretty good group, whose position players have produced excellent results. I have left out coaches like Dom Capers, Kevin Green, and Mike Trgovac in case you whine that it can be debated if McCarthy actually hired them.

For the record, all the O-line coaches during McCarthy's tenure (Philbin and Fontenot) were actually holdovers from the previous regime who McCarthy kept.

Based on that, Chutzpah, you might want to randomly state that all the coaches McCarthy held over from Sherman's tenure have sucked, thereby proving McCarthy sucks.

Well, you would be ignoring coaches like current RB coach Edgar Bennett and our ex-CB coach Lionel Washington who are certainly not stiffs.

But please, do feel free to explain how the coaches McCarthy has hired suck. That was a completely random opinion, and I'd love to see you back it with some fact.

These two coaches should definitely be replaced though.

Bottom line Mike McCarthy is the head coach. He is responsible for all, directly or not, of his team's successes, as well as their failures. If they win an SB McCarthy will deserve all the credit.

Tom Clements is a future head coach someday IMO.

Dom Capers has done a great job with the injuries to the Packers' defense. That was a McCarthy hire. I believe he was the guy that wanted to move to the 3-4 defense. Thompson did what good GMs do and adapted to what his coach wanted.

I have to say I think Green Bay has one of the stronger staffs in the league.

I thought I heard, after it was done, that Greg Williams was actually their first choice. Does anyone know if this is the truth?

Irregardless, I am so glad they made the move to the 3-4 and hired one of the few coaches who can actually call it. Not only has it been wildly successful, but IMO it is much more fun to watch, with all the different motion and packages.

Has their ever been a similar defensive transition, which has gone this smoothly? With a single draft and no FAs, they had the second best defense in the league less than a year after the switch. Ted Thompson took Holmgren to another SB and hopefully will do the same for us.

Fair enough; they've had far from a stellar record during their time as O-line coaches.

I totally agree for holding McCarthy accountable. But I think sometimes people can be a too demanding of him, which is unfair. He is the HC, but sometimes players fail to execute. Don't blame every little thing on McCarthy (not meaning to imply you do Chutzpah) and claim he be fired every time something goes wrong. If it is a chronic problem, then he certainly deserves to be ridiculed.

For the record, I'm surprised McCarthy would be mentioned as a Coach of the Year candidate. Dude has done nothing but allow his team a chance to meet expectations by being 5-3... which is what you'd expect him to do. He hasn't done anything beyond that... he simply isn't worthy of such an honour IMO. Now in his 13-3 year in 2007, he deserved it for getting his team to play well beyond their expectations. This was a talented team going in, with fair depth. He's overcome injuries... granted it was not easy to overcome key injuries but it's not like he was playing with NFL-E caliber players as back-ups and a coaching staff of nobodies.
