Packers linebacker Clay Matthews was fined $5,000 for roughing the passer during Monday's 20-17 Bears' victory over the Packers, the NFL confirmed Friday.

It was determined during a video review of the game that Matthews unnecessarily grabbed Bears quarterback Jay Cutler by the facemask.

Previously, it was reported that Packers linebacker Frank Zombo was fined $7,500 for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Cutler.

Sorry if this has been discussed, I know there's a Zombo thread but no Matthews. What's up with the league and Cutler, I mean come on face mask always happen every game what's the deal.

I don't think that was "fine worthy" either. penalty? Yes....fine? No.

I didn't know they called it "roughing the passer" when the QB is beyond the line of scrimmage. It was a run of the mill facemask that occurred because of poor tackling technique by Matthews, but the fact that it happened to a QB is why they are fining him. They don't want players head hunting. It's a silly fine because it obviously was not head hunting.

I already said that he would be fined for that in the gameday chat.

It was a really ugly facemask that deserved to get a fine... not that I don't think fines are given too easily these days.

If Urlacher had done that to Rodgers a lot of fans would be demanding to see him fined.

It was pretty ugly stuff and another example of a good play wiped out by a penalty.

I hope more of our players are fined for this stuff - maybe that way they won't commit a franchise record number of penalties next time.

If our coaches can't stop them maybe the league fining office can.

He grabbed the inside of the helmet.

Remember No fine is less than $5000. It is the same as wearing your socks incorrectly.

So Cutler has a few adequate games and now he has earned his skirt. I wonder what Rodgers has to do to earn his?
