Maybe he is coming up to go apple picking. It's a lovely fall weekend.

UPDATE: Wednesday September 29th, 10:30pm (pst):

As of 8pm pst the Panthers are listening to the Packers and the two sides are still talking players & picks, but the Panthers want to see what happens with their next 2 games (against the Saints and Bears). If they lose both games, the Panthers would be 1-5 and a deal is likely to happen IF the two sides (the Packers & Panthers) can (1) agree on compensation and (2) the Packers can sign Williams to a new deal that would keep him a Packers beyond the 2010 season according to a source with knowledge of the situation. The dialogue is good and going in a very positive direction.

Keep an eye on James Jones during these trade discussions as a possible trade chip. The Panthers need another WR opposite of Steve Smith (and would allow them to move Branden LaFell to the slot when they go 3 wide) and Jones could be a key figure in a potential Williams deal.

NOTHING is eminent regarding Williams or Marshawn Lynch for that matter. The Bills want a starting offensive lineman (a tackle to be specific) and a 2nd round pick for Lynch. That's a steep price to pay for Lynch who has a well documented off the field history. I was told by a source with knowledge of the trade talks that if the Packers were to pay that high of a price for a player it would be for Williams who has no character issues and has a reputation of being a great teammate and a smart football player.

TT's not getting rid of James Jones. Driver's not going to be around forever and Jordy cannot replace Driver.

Just like Williams, lets evaluate James Jones over the next two games and decide if we think we can really live with or without him. This trade notion makes me very curious, but very much on the fence as I have enjoyed James Jones' growth so far and would like to see him continue.

They might as well do the deal now because they ain't beatin' the Saints or the Bears. If I were the Packers I would be saying take it or leave it or the deal gets less sweet for the Panthers every game that goes by. I mean the value of the pick we give up stays the same and will be justified by what Williams would do for us THIS year. It's all about future value for them and current value for us.

Agreed. Clausen's still got a shit-ton to learn, and their defense isn't what it used to be. Add to that they're in a division with Atlanta and N.O., and realistically they should start re-building now.

For the Packers, IF you're going to do this deal you want to do it ASAP. Get the guy in, get him up to speed, etc. Wait another 2 games and you might as well simply wait until the rookie comes off the PUP and see what you've got there.

Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Now that's a thought, maybe they're looking at the college ranks? Maybe not head coaches but DC/assistant DCs with league experience?
beast (30-Jan) : College Coaches wouldn't want that publicly, as it would hurt recruiting and they might not get the job.
beast (30-Jan) : I thought they were supposed to publicly announce them, at least the NFL ones. Hafley was from college, so I believe different rules.
Mucky Tundra (30-Jan) : Who knows who they're interviewing? I mean, nobody knew about Hafley and then out of nowhere he was hired
beast (30-Jan) : I wonder what's taking so long with hiring a DL coach, 2 of the 3 known to interview have already been hired elsewhere.
