Well as of tonight this is what I do know (and can report):
Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy had a 2-3 hour long meeting today with the other front office people. A lot was discussed but they are NOT happy with some of the things that is going on and took place last night. I don't know if anyone's job was discussed, but it was with the teams "brain trust".
Thompson all morning was talking to a few teams about the following players: Marshawn Lynch, Steve Slaton, Michael Bush and DeAngelo Williams.
Williams will be expensive from what I gathered, but the Panthers are going to rebuild and have 4 quality backs in Williams, Stewart, Goodson and Sutton. McCarthy is pushing HARD for Williams since he is only 25 and can be an every down back. I heard they want a player and a 2 for him, and the Packers are discussing it. Don't look for a deal anytime soon.
The Bills are asking for a player and a 2nd or 3rd for Lynch. The two teams talked multiple times today and a little progress was made, but nothing major. The Bills offered Fred Jackson for a 5th, but with Jackson in year 2 of a 4 year 7.5 million dollar deal, the Packers were not as interested in him vs Lynch. Nothing is eminent.
The Texans want a 4th or 5th for Slaton, but he has some fumbling issues and that has help him fall out of favor in Houston. Slaton would be an excellent 3rd down back, but McCarthy told Thompson he wants a "bell cow that can carry the load".
Finally, the Packers called the Raiders and asked about Michael Bush, but they want a 1st or 2nd for him and are not budging off that price tag. It doesn't look like a deal with them will take place at all.
Now my personal view:
Out of all the backs listed (or rumored), I want Williams and would give a 1st for him without blinking an eye. The pick (hopefully) would be a LATE 1st and he would be an excellent fit for the Packers offense with his speed, power and hands. I don't know the names that the Panthers are interested in, but (this is my speculation) James Jones, Jason Spitz, Desmond Bishop and AJ Hawk are the players I would think being mentioned. (AGAIN THIS IS JUST MY OWN SPECULATION ON THE PLAYERS, NOT ANY RUMOR)
Lynch is the most likely to be dealt based on the fact the Bills want to deal him now and the Packers and Bills have had been talking for a couple weeks (actually since the draft). Lynch, like Williams, would be an excellent fit in the Packers offense and a player that would force defenses to play them honest (and not drop 7 into coverage).
