I don't think anything will happen. I'm sure there's talks, but I fear we think we're fine with what we have and waiting for Starks. If our running game stays inept and Starks can't provide a spark ... I ... wait, that won't work, deadline is Oct 19th ... lol

I have no clue what the hell they're thinking.

Not that I think this trade will happen or anything, but if they did think there were issues with the running game they would never admit it publicly. So just because McCarthy says something in a press conference doesn't neccessarily mean that is what he thinks privately.

Green Bay's front-office strategy has been, by design, conservative. Build through the draft -- develop talent from within. It has worked very well so far. Now may be the time to pay a lot, pull the trigger, and bring in another quality player. DeAngelo Williams ... wow. I don't think this will happen, but IMO giving up a 1st is worth it. Green Bay paid too much (at the time) to bring in Woodson -- 7 years 49 mil' for a guy who was thought to have been washed up. How has that worked out so far? If Green Bay is able to bring in Williams we have a legitimate Pro Bowl caliber RB who can run, catch, and make plays.

As fans we never want the front office to overpay, but when you already have a surplus of talented young players, why the hell not? Isn't a team like Green Bay the perfect team to make an aggressive move? Could it be that Grant's injury was secretly a blessing?

It's exciting to think about, but probably won't happen. My fingers are flying right now ... signifying my excitement. But really, sigh, this probably is just wishful thinking.
William Henderson didn't have to run people over. His preferred method was levitation.

Arrigo has proven to be right in the past...

BUT I'm calling bullshit on this one. Especially when people who have built links to the Packers Arrigo could only dream of (like McGinn and Bedard) have stated that the Bills have outright rejected the Packers' advances about Lynch.

Caroline has nothing on offense except Steve Smith and their two-headed RB monster. I see no reason why they would give up one of their two excellent backs unless they were getting a star compliment to Steve Smith (which James Jones / Jordy Nelson are NOT).

Carolina has depth at the RB and is needing to rebuild. Letting Williams go for a draft pick makes sense for them, as Williams is in his last year. There's a good chance he goes elsewhere after the conclusion of the season.

Not when their HC is on the hot seat, and needs to show something in the present to keep his job not just until the end of the season, but beyond it also.

They have resorted to starting a rookie QB that is not completely ready to play at the NFL level. Outside of Smith, he has no viable targets. They've started an undrafted rookie at WR this year in the hopes of having someone step-up opposite of Smith.

The running game can be hugely valuable to them. I just do not see them having real incentive to deal away a player of Williams caliber at this moment. Remember, there is no CBA for next season, and if one does get hammered out the Panthers still have the ability to tag Williams with the Franchise Tag.

Arrigo is too hit and miss; I can't figure out if he is a character that pulls stuff out of his ass (even a broken clock is right twice a day, as they say) or someone who actually is somewhat plugged in.

On PC, there is no person more reliable than Patty. She has not commented on this, and frankly unless she says she too has heard rumblings about this, I am not going to put much stock in this rumour.

I'm not saying it's going to happen, I don't think it will. However, it would make sense for the Panthers. I believe the GM has final say on who is traded, not the HC, but I'm not sure how they operate.

You kind of went more to my point about them rebuilding as you mentioned starting a rookie at QB.

Remember, Williams is 27 years old and a franchise tag is going to pay him LOTS of money, at a position you have a more than capable stable of running backs and at that age seems awfully risky. Doesn't seem to make much sense to me. With that said, he only has one full starting season under his belt, so maybe the "30" year mark won't apply as hard for him as others.

I can see them wanting James Jones for Williams, or a draft pick. It just makes sense for them.

Pretty safe to say, since we're talking about it, it'll never happen. Seems to be the common thread with trades and the Packers as of late.
