...We will not be a SuperBowl Caliber team. IMHO no team has ever won the Super Bowl without a well balanced running/passing game and right now we have no running game, nor will Mike McCarthy alllow one to develop. I am not sure what it is with this guy, but every season it's the same M.O.
with him.

Actually if you look at the last few SB winners they havent had a star runner. Plenty of numbers have been crunched by Packer beat reporters this week on this subject. All you need is mediocre production on the ground and you can win the SB. It's a passing league right now.

And the Bears have the #1 run D so today was a tough matchup.

When you don't even have enough of one 1 yard running threat that you don't line anyone up in the backfield...

see how far that takes ya....

Oh, well, we are in great shape then. Because both Rodgers and Khun had rushes longer than one-yard tonight. And last week, Nance had a couple of runs for three yards; triple the "1-yard threat" you want. We are golden.

I was worried there for a second.

Yeah, we do not want to end up like the Saints! They had little-known Pierre Thomas at RB.

Look where it led them....

I certainly dread we'll follow them down the same path.

The Packers seemed pretty good at getting almost 400 yards in offense without even pretending to run, and the only thing that slowed the Packers offense down were penalties. What game were you watching? They also did a pretty good job of controlling the clock, thank you very much.

I won't address the whole "needing a RB to win the SB" bull as it's already been addressed multiple times.

Running Game = Winning Teams
Running Game = Defenses that Don't get Tired
Running Game = Demoralized Opponents
Running Game = Time Management

"twebdonny" wrote:

Funny, we've done all these things at times exclusively through the air. And by "at times", I mean multiple games in a row. Tell me, without half of those penalties out there today and that late fumble, the score could have been 28-17 (28-10 without the punt return) and suddenly the offense would be completely dominating. Gee, if the offense/team's inability to dominate seems reliant on things NOT RELATED TO THE RUNNING GAME AT ALL, it would seem to imply that while having a dominant running game can do all of the above, so can a dominant passing game.

Silence! You can have 600 passing yards, score 90 points a game, have a defense that never allows more than 100 yards and a solid special teams. But if you don't have a RB that can get more than 3YPC, you'll never make the playoffs, much less win the superbowl.
