There's just too many variables to be right or wrong on this. It could go on forever. There's just no right answer or wrong answer. It's easy as hell to be a big shot prognosticator now that the game is over, but in the events, there's a huge difference. There's a flow of the game to consider, which is obviously being forgotten here. Not to mention the other team's decisions. Who's to say they'd have scored in the first place? They could have kneeled to kill the clock to set up the chip shot FG and risk missing it in favor of overtime instead of giving the ball back to Rodgers with a minute to go.

Wait, no one wants to think about that!!

I'm getting confused here. "No one wants to think about that!!" What are you talking about?? lol. I have brought it up at least twice now. Of course they could have done that but as I have said that did not seem like their intentions AT ALL to me. Perhaps I'm wrong, but it most certainly seemed like they were trying to score. Perhaps a little highlight clip could help?

Letting them score is a awfully close minded thinking process. You assume the ball carrier would run it in. That would be a helluva funny scene though, lol. Ball carrier runs it into the 5 yard line, stops, the Defense doesn't pursue... they just all stand there ... waiting ... GAME OVER! hah

"Zero2Cool" wrote:

you saw the game and you saw that he tried to get it in. imo it was a bad call from the bears perspective. as already mentioned in this thread, they could have take a knee, run down the clock, kick the fg .... over. they gave the packers the chance to take the early score, but the packers refused to take it.

and if the ball carrier stops, build a pile on him and run it in by your own :D

I dunno, I think its funny. It's too bad some are so pigheaded and refuse to see things from another perspective other than their own. And when you start to show positives to their perspective, they just pounce on it as if there's no other perspective instead respecting both scenarios, or multiple scenarios.

Take, take, take, no give with some of ya. Amusing how predictable it is too, almost as predictable as some of our play calling.

"Zero2Cool" wrote:

i'm far away from not respecting other perspectives, but just have a look on the numbers: 219 carreer kicks from 30 and less, 218 went through, the only miss was in his rookie season. doing the math, this is less than 0,5% to tie the game. to be honest, even with all the penalties and the sloppy play in the second half, giving rodgers the ball with 1 minute left i expect a higher chance to tie the game than this 0,5%. that has nothing to do with being pigheaded. 😉

this thread, and hell last night's game, is about odds and calculated risks. Unless Ray Finkle was kicking for the bears, MM and co. have to assume that the bears can make a 19 yard FG. Would you be willing to bet $100 that an NFL kicker could make a 19 yarder? I sure would!

Regardless of the decision to not let them score, I don't see how one could think it wouldn't have been incredibly easy to let him score. Perhaps I'm just remembering it wrong, but I saw no indication that he was going to stop, so I don't understand that argument.

"doddpower" wrote:

lol ... professional athletes can't stop while running and looking downward ... ya know looking at the yard markers ... perhaps to know when to fall? I'd be more inclined to think his main goal was to score if his head was looking upward, rather than downward at the yard markers. It doesn't take much to drop to a knee.

See what I mean?! Too many variables!!

I think I saw the game. I'm starting to question it now. It appears we have a plethora of head coaches on the board that know more than professionals. (which i dont doubt, lol)

I saw a ball carrier running ... and last I remember ... its not too difficult to drop to a knee while running.

Okay I should be working, but I'm really wanting to see things how you do. So I checked the play by play.

I know this might sound contradictory since I'm failing to accurately express where I'm coming from, but the 1st down at the 9 yard line. I think THAT play is where we should have let them score. We'd have had 90 seconds plus a time out to score and tie the game.

# (1:44) 22-M.Forte right tackle to GB 3 for 6 yards (50-A.Hawk).

# 2-3-GB 3 (:59) 22-M.Forte right guard to GB 1 for 2 yards (90-B.Raji).

# Timeout #3 by GB at 00:53.

# 3-1-GB 1 (:53) 22-M.Forte right guard to GB 1 for no gain (42-M.Burnett).

# Timeout #3 by CHI at 00:08.

# 4-1-GB 1 (:08) 9-R.Gould 19 yard field goal is GOOD, Center-65-P.Mannelly, Holder-4-B.Maynard.

I think that extra :30 gives us time to for fuck up or two (as we did every drive in the 2nd half) and still have a reasonable chance to get into the end zone.

That run, I think they were trying to score. The last two, I think were clock eating runs.

Edit, I'm still not convinced we'd have won the game in over time, unless we won the toss and played smart, something we didn't do much of. But I'll bite on the 'rise to the challenge' comment there.

As I said, I'll have to watch it again, but I saw no indication of the bears wanting to do anything other than score. Yes, this is just a feeling but it's the feeling I got from watching the game live. It looked to me like their number one goal was to score and I don't think any knees would have been taken by the RB.

i just put on my gamepass and watched the last seconds again. no way forte would have stopped before scoring. at least on the 2 last run, just miss the tackle and he can go nowhere but in.

and zero, after the first run they were at the 3, you do 2 run-down-the-clock runs from the 3? seriously? the absolute maximum you can get of this is a 18 yds fg instead a 22 yds fg. do you think anyone would risk a fumble on these 2 plays for 4 yds difference? i honestly do not.

That's right, how could I forget the ballcarrier was NOT covering up the ball at all while aiming his head down into the pile?

I really DO need to watch the game again. Then I can ignore every thing I've said and pretend that only your thoughts matter!

Thanks for the discussion, really, thanks, I enjoy talking to brick walls. Maybe I'll get smart some day and I'll be able to converse with ya all.
