I think our coaching staff knows they have to take a good hard look at some of our guys. Cold-blooded will be the name of the game. McC has reiterated ad nauseum in the last week and a half that Clif is our starting LT, and by extension I imagine he'd echo the same for Tausch at RT. These guys have the skills and the experience to be sure. But their bodies look to be taking nosedives. They have to prognosticate where they will meet the point of diminishing returns on these guys. As for me, I have gotten to the point where I am sick of seeing these two hobbling around out there.

We can bang all you want on our tackles.. but unless we establish some sort of running threat, defense after defense will be able to set up to all out pass rush us and treat our running attack like the red headed step child... in other words.. let it beat them.

Not defending the mental mistakes made by either.. but we set them up to fail based on play calling and sets... the bears had absolutely no respect for our running game.. none. That to me is more troubling than Clifton or Mark struggling.

I truly hope the MM establishes the running game verses the Lions somehow.. because until we give the opposition some pause to our running game and slowing down the pass rush.. we are going to have tackles on banana peels all season on the edge.

Pretty sad when only one offensive lineman didn't get a penalty called upon him..

You go tell your drinkin' buddy Tausch that Foster says it's time to bag the NFL...

Put him on your slow-pitch softball team or somethin'...

Tell him we all said thanks for the memories. Nice sig, btw--

That indirectly goes back to my original point. Clifton has always been below-average for a long-time starting LT at run-blocking, and Tauscher has been average to slightly above average for his career. They're getting worse. Much worse. When is it time to make a change and move to guys like Lang and Bulaga, both of whom I would say are upgrades to Clfiton and Tausch in the running game right now.

A modicum of sanity is required tonight.

They were playing in a hostile environment against one hell of a pass rusher. I don't think any of the penalties on Taush and Cliffy came unless Peppers was in a stance opposite them.

I think that speaks volumes about Peppers, more so than the (lack of) utility of our starting Ts.

Even so, how many false starts were there due to the fact that he was just across the line from them? I realize Peppers is (VERY) good, but still the same, we can't give up so many false starts, because we know that Cliffy and Tausch are going to be playing against other talented DE's, this is the NFL. Stop doing that crap, or get ready to ship out.

Clifton and Tauscher have no excuses for false starts. Their years of experience should nullify that. I haven't seen enough of Lang (that I remember) and I agree that Bulaga should be playing as well.

No, no, NO! We certainly do NOT need a running game. Don't you read the rest of this board? Apparently it's common knowledge now...

Anyway, I'm not so sold on Bulaga and Lang as some around here, but I would like to see both of them start against Detroit. If one or both play well, keep them as starters on a short leash, with well-rested and health(ier) Clifton and Tauscher ready to step in.

I would, however, like to see James Campen fired immediately.

This is why I think you "need" a running game of some sort, if only to keep the defense honest.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, and I probably am, but I've always heard and thought that run blocking is what OL prefer because they do the attacking. Where as pass blocking they are taking the attacks.

IF that's true, who wants to be getting attacked all game long and more importantly, who's going to withstand that?
