Packers' Grant reveals he is having ankle operation Tuesday

Green Bay Packers running back Ryan Grant told his followers on Twitter that he is having ankle surgery Tuesday, jokingly adding that he expects to play Monday night against the Chicago Bears.

"Everybody is probably sleep but I'm getting ready for this surgery..starts at 8am .. Home by 1pm.. Ready for Monday night Chicago lol" Grant tweeted early Tuesday morning.

Grant, who has rushed for more than 1,200 yards in each of the past two seasons, suffered a right ankle injury during the Packers' season-opening 27-20 victory at Philadelphia. Packers coach Mike McCarthy said Grant's injury involved ligament damage, and the team placed him on season-ending injured reserve.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Call me an old fogey, but it will never sit well with me when so-called reporters use Twitter as a source. Whatever happened to calling up someone and having, you know, a real conversation?

Tweeter is a source when it comes directly from the person that is verified? Why the huge issue?

That's quite a nefarious title, nonstop.

Regarding the twitter thing -- its just about unavoidable. Ryan Grant doesn't call up media sources to keep them in the know. He (and sadly practically all celebs) break news on twitter.

I hate twitter with a fiery passion, but it would be best here to think of Grant as the source, not twitter.

P.S. Your absolute hatred of the press leads me to believe they were responsible for the deaths of at least three of your childhood puppies.

I was trying to imagine how you amputate an ankle without the whole foot.

Oh my god, he's getting his ankle amputated!!! I didn't think it was that serious. Forget about him being put on IR, lets just release him, can't have a 1 legged RB.

Hold up there, chief. He did keep a pretty solid pace when he ran to the locker room during the game on one foot!
Twitter is interesting in the fact that I really want to be on it so I can see what certain athletes are doing (as well as find out what kind of foot lotion Brad Pitt uses), but its the principle of the matter that I will NEVER join that stupid site.
