For quite a few years now I've had family and friends tell me I have some ADD or ADhD deal. I've been long against any medication of any kind. Dad always said "walk it off son" and that's how I go about life. I don't try to 'treat' things, I get past them. Same applies to ADhd or ADD. Those who say I have it, my thought is I just fail at focusing properly and need to try harder.

Mom said that she thought I might have it, but felt that I suffer from some kind of anxiety disorder which she said explains why I can't sit still at times or feel suffocated in the house and have to go for long drives or walks.

Dad says he had me tested back in 5th grade and I somehow tested twice my grade in many of the subjects. (i swear i was only guessing on the answers, i just wanted out of that room)

The point of this is, I'm at work for a half day and bored off my ass and came accross an article that poked my interest. So I thought I'd share with you and pose the question. (no ... not what is wrong with me, that'd take a long time lol) but rather... what do YOU know about anxiety disorder or ADD/ADhD? Do they exist or are they just excuses for people who don't try hard enough? From what I've read, I tend to feel its an excuse for failure.

Here's a graphic I thought was interesting.

Don't most if not all these symptoms apply to everyone? They seem pretty common to me.

I think it's real, but used WAY too much as an excuse to drug kids.

I was a "day dreamer" in school. I had trouble concentrating and was easily distracted.
I would put things off school work wise unless pushed a little. But i have an IQ in the 120's, and in college never had under a 3.0. I grew out of alot of it, without being drugged up.
I'm glad my parents didn't drug me up.
They tell kids to "say NO to drugs", yet at the first sign of "non conforming" they pump them full of the crap. Then wonder why they are drug dependant the rest of their lives. Do we want a bunch of "zombies" walking around? Cause thats what we will have with this drug forcing types.

When my daughter was four her mom decided to have her on some ADD type pills. When I found out about it it was stopped immediately. I think that is way to young to even try to diagnosis a child of anything like that. My argument for taking her off the medication stuff was that she didn't pay enough attention to her and that is why her behavior was out of control.

Three years later, I proved that theory to be correct. She's been living with me for the last year and a half with just your normal issues of a seven year old.

Personally, I think this stuff is more of an excuse for parents to NOT be parents and have something else do the work for them.

EXACTLY!!!!!

Instead of saying "Maybe you should spend a little time with your kid" it's MUCH easier to just drug them up!

My Mom made me sit down and READ out loud to her every week. Then i had to explain what i read. I HATED it.
But you know what? I didn't go to college until i was 32 years old. I scored in the top 5% in the ACT test, and had a 2nd year college reading level BEFORE i even went to college.
I thanked my Mom MANY times for taking the time to make me read to her.
It would have been easier for her to drug me, and sit me in front of the TV.

Theres WAY too many things for kids to do today. Text message, video games, TV and so on. Thats just another reason why our kids are getting so fat. Hardly anyone plays outside anymore.

DING DING DING DING! Cheesey and I agree! I'm right with you on this one. I think there is certainly a value to certain medications, but I think this "medicate the world" philosophy will end up hurting an entire generation of youth. I know people whose lives are made much more manageable by taking certain medications -- and there's nothing bad about taking a medication. But the tendency to "medicate, medicate, medicate!" can also be harmful.

Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : sounds like Packers don't get good compensation, Jaire staying
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Nobody coming up with a keep, but at x amount
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Trade, cut or keep
dfosterf (16-Apr) : that from Jaire
dfosterf (16-Apr) : My guess is the Packers floated the concept of a reworked contract via his agent and agent got a f'
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Yes, and that is why I think Rob worded it how he did. Rather than say "agent"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Same laws apply. Agent must present such an offer to Jaire. Cannot accept or reject without presenting it
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : I'm thinking that is why Rob worded it how he did.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The Packers can certainly still make the offer to the agent
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Laws of agency and definition of fiduciary responsibility
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Jaire is open to a reduced contract without Jaire's permission
dfosterf (16-Apr) : The agent would arguably violate the law if he were to tell the Packers
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : That someone ... likely the agent.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : So, Jaire has not been offered nor rejected a pay reduction, but someone says he'd decline.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovksy says t was direct communication with someone familiar with Jaire’s line of thinking at that moment.
Zero2Cool (16-Apr) : Demovsky just replied to me a bit ago. Jaire hasn't said it.
dfosterf (16-Apr) : Of course, that depends on the definition of "we"
dfosterf (16-Apr) : We have been told that they haven't because he wouldn't accept it. I submit we don't know that
dfosterf (16-Apr) : What is the downside in making a calculated reduced offer to Jaire?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers are receiving interest in Jaire Alexander but a trade is not imminent
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Jalen Ramsey wants to be traded. He's never happy is he?
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : two 1sts in 2022 and two 2nd's in 2023 and 2024
Zero2Cool (15-Apr) : Packers had fortunate last three drafts.
dfosterf (15-Apr) : I may have to move
dfosterf (15-Apr) : My wife just told the ancient Japanese sushi dude not enough rice under his fish
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I think a dozen is what I need
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Go fund me for this purpose just might work. A dozen nurses show up at 1265 to provide mental health assistance.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Maybe send a crew of Angels to the Packers draft room on draft day.
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : I am the Angel that gets visited.
dfosterf (14-Apr) : Visiting Angels has a pretty good reputation
Zero2Cool (14-Apr) : what
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : WINNING IT, not someone else losing it. The best victory though was re-uniting with his wife
Martha Careful (14-Apr) : The manner in which he won it was just amazing and wonderful. First blowing the lead then getting back, then blowing it. But ultimately
Zero2Cool (12-Apr) : I'm guessing since the thumb was broken, he wasn't feeling it.
dfosterf (10-Apr) : Looking for guidance. Not feeling the thumb.
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : If they knew about it or not
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : I don't recall that he did which is why I asked.
Zero2Cool (10-Apr) : Guessing they probably knew. Did he have cast or something on?
Mucky Tundra (10-Apr) : Did they know that at the time or was that something the realized afterwards?
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Van Ness played most of season with broken thumb
wpr (9-Apr) : yay
Zero2Cool (9-Apr) : Mark Murphy says Steelers likely to protect Packers game. Meaning, no Ireland
Zero2Cool (8-Apr) : Struggling to figure out what text editor options are needed and which are 'nice to have'
