Interesting. Daryn Colledge doesn't really sound like he wants to come back.

He sounds dellusional. He feels like he has some big pay day coming that he earned. Someone ought to make him aware that there will not be a bidding war for his services. I think he has been OVERPAID to this point. That o-line was in shambles and would still be if not for the veteran tackles. Colledge provides no special or should I say unique or significant skill that can not be found elsewhere(such as the 5th round of this years draft).

Pickett has done a great job, and I hope the Packers can keep him, but I don't think they should break the bank for him. With Raji, we already have a high-dollar guy who plays nose tackle. Pickett plays limited snaps because he is purely a run stuffer. Raji is more versatile. And there is only so much money to go around.

I think Collins is the highest priority. We've had more than our share of bad safety play in Green Bay over the past ten years or so, and we cannot afford to let a good one get away just as he's coming into his prime.

I was surprised by the harsh words from Colledge. I've always thought he was a below average left guard. He's hung in there, though, and for the sake of continuity, it might be good to sign him long-term at a reasonable price.

As for Lynn_Dickey's comment about left tackle, it is unlikely that a good one will be available in free agency. That position is like QB in that way. When a team has a good one, they lock him up.

I would normally agree about left tackles, but there are rumors out there of money problems for some teams. With the uncapped year, teams can go below the min. I think we can pick off a semi good LT from one of them. We will have to overpay, but if its for a guy with a good attitude, I'm OK with it.

I am almost always in favor of getting better o-linemen in FA. It never happens, but I'm almost always in favor of it...I would SO much love to be consistently screaming at my TV that "HE HAS ALL DAMN DAY!!!" / "LOOK AT THAT GD HOLE!!" when my team is on OFFENSE. :thumbleft:

Colledge to me is backup quality. Serviceable. That's all. And IMO that's not sufficient. :horse:

Barring a super bowl victory this year (which is the ultimate "STFU about the OL, Wade" argument), I will be seriously grumpy if I perceive Ted Thompson as limiting himself to, what was Lynn_Dickey's term, "semi-good" OL out of fear of overspending. I don't want "semi-good on the OL anymore. I want all 5 starters between "good" and "dominant". I want a team where the only place for Daryn Colledge/Jason Spitz-level players is "backup/depth".

:horse: :horse:

And I'll be seriously upset if the Packers take a "well, we got B J Raji, so Pickett can be lost" approach. A 3-4 team needs more than one good NT, and they do not grow on trees.
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

I would love to keep Pickett. I just question whether a team can afford to pay starters' money for four D-linemen when it runs a 3-4 defense. Jolly is the only one of the four who is not making big bucks right now, but the Packers may need to pay a lot of money to hang onto him as well.

Jolly will be a restrictive free agent if a new CBA isn't reached by March (which isn't likely right now). They same as Colledge. Not sure how that would impact how much Jolly is paid but it is possible it won't be as much as you think.

Thanks. I wasn't sure of that. I think it means that the Packers would have the right to match any contract offer made by another team. Usually there are no offers for restricted free agents, but it is possible that someone could make a big offer for Jolly. Some teams might more willing than the Packers to take on the risk of him missing playing time due to his legal problems.
